Thank you for all the replies. Yes, I change my oil every Sept before winter time. Glad to see others with their original chain. I hope you are the first owner because I am.

Most of it are highway miles. Maybe the chain life might change if you are doing a lot of offroading. I want to keep it that way to see how long it would take before I get a stretched chain code.

By the way, I use amsoil synthetic and filter eversince.

Good info there. Me at 10k or 1 year with amsoil.

Now at 143000 miles. Full syn oil every 6000 miles. Never changed out the chain, and never will.
Most likely sell within few years anyway.

I thought that the 4.7 V8's had the infamous timing belt problems. I don't think you need to change a timing chain unless it needs it (hence why they switched back to a chain) because they are more durable. Or I could just be an idiot (very real possibility). Also, change the oil every ~5k ish.

ah. that's not really a problem/flaw inherent to the v8 engine. its EVERY timing belt engine. the belt is a maintenance item. our are good for 90k, others are only 60k. not a problem, just a different design.

I put the original back in at 170k when I did the head gaskets. It was in new condition.
