Were you not tempted to change it while you were in there? I've been told that if I'm opening it up I should change the chains and tensioners.. Its a pretty penny but if I dont have to worry about it in the future I think it would be worth it.

Not one bit tempted. The block metal was coated evenly with a gold color of warm heated oil. The plastic tensioners were barely marked and the chain lined up exactly to the marks when re-installed. It was a one-owner vehicle driven in Nevada, so warm/cold cycles were likely less extreme than a northern vehicle. It's been 20k miles since the re-install and with 180k miles it still idles like a new car.

My only regret on the re-install was getting a generic water pump because it came with a non-metallic gasket seal, and that leaked after a few weeks which added a few hours to repair again.
