Ram Ball mounting location

Hey all,

Been getting sick of my air vent phone mount and would like to have something robust like the ram mount.

Can I safely drill into the overhanging dash material above the gauge cluster to install a mount?

Are there any better ways to install a mount in that area so phone is right of wheel and left of center console?

Thank you!

I used a Scosche MagDB mount below the hazards button and it's a happy medium between in reach and not having to cut up any part of my dash.

See a picture in my build below...

My roommate uses the RAM, looks pretty solid, but I just use this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JCLPCKT/

Works fine for me.

I took a diamond mount, ground down one side and drilled into my cluster/dash. It's solid, doesn't block controls, and easy to view...at stop signs..

I've got this mount paired with a Scosche Magic Mount that works really well: Center Dash Mount | ProClip USA

It doesn't block the flow of air out of the vent completely.

Sure, it doesn't blow directly on me, but I didn't notice a difference in how quickly the driver's side of the truck cooled off in the summer.

This is how I rigged mine

5th Gen 4Runner iPhone/ Droid Phone Mount - 4Runner Phone Mount

I did not want to drill at first but realized it was really hard to mess this up and a very small hole. I went through at least 5 different mounting solutions before making this my last.

AND, here are three threads to poke around in and look and what others have done.

Diffinitive cell phone mount solution thread?

cell phone mounting ideas?

2019 Current phone mount solutions?

i did the same as hinmo24t but with the ram mount. I can snag a pic if you need. It's a great spot. Just some bolts, washers and nylon nuts.

Same, except that's where I have my inreach mount vs a phone mount. No need to have my phone within reach, it doesn't get used while I'm driving. If I need street navigation maps I just toss my phone into the cup holder. I can see it just fine there.
