2003 -2005 DIY grille lights for about $30
Hey guys, I decided to give the grille lights look a try. I didn't want to spend a fortune on something I wasn't sure I would like long term. I found an LED made by Optronics which is a 3/4" waterproof Amber lights. It comes with a black rubber grommet, which by shear luck just happens to press right into the top opening of the 03-05 grills perfectly. They are called Optronics 3/4" mini sealed maker/clearance lights and the part # is "MCL12AK" and they can be found at E-Trailer, Advanced auto, Oreilly's autoparts, ETC...I thought it looked pretty slick. Since it doesn't require any modification of the grill in any way it can be removed at any time and go right back to stock.
I started by splicing a wire at the connector for the driver's side parking light. I ran this positive wire up the inner fender by the hood latch and underneath the hood insulator.
I crimped an eyelet to a black wire and attached it where the negative battery terminal cable grounds on the body. I ran this wire up alongside the positive wire.
I then put all 4 LEDs in the grille where I wanted them. Then I wired the lights to the powers and grounds as shown in the pic below. Once it was all wired, I wrapped it all in electrical tape and zip tied the wiring out of the way of the hood latch.
Here's how it turned out. (1 of the 4 lights isn't an exact match of the others. It is slightly dimmer when on, and slightly different in design as a whole. I will be swapping it out asap for a new one. Frustrating as it's the same part# from the same manufacturer and all 4 were ordered at the same time, but such is life)
