Can Anyone Identify This Sound (Video)

I've owned this 4R for about a month and just noticed this sound last week. It is definitely coming from the underside and it sounds like it is located in the rear-half. The windows are open; it's much quieter with them up.

Any ideas?

That happens on many vehicles. Pressure changes are caused due to rear windows down with front up. Play around with them until right balance.

"can you describe the ruckus sir"... YouTube

not sure what sound we're listening for... if its the wind whipping around, it's obviously from the windows or rear windows as mentioned above.

but if theres some other sound there since you mention its quieter with the windows up, can you describe the type of noise you're hearing or what we should be listening for?

Sounds like something flapping around, maybe a loose mudflap or one of the splashguards inside the fenders.

It sounds like a metal chaffing sound caused by vibration. check that exhaust hangers are good.

Thanks for the input so far. Some of you guys think that I’m joking around. I get it. It does sound like “wind-flap,” but that’s not what it is. It does sound like a metal-on-metal sound. At idle, it is on and off – very subtle. It’s only when I start moving that it gets loud enough to potentially diagnose. I know that this is not the best way to find out what is wrong, but being that I can’t drive and be under the car to film at the same time, I found this to be a decent alternative.

I’m going to get it up on my buddy’s lift this weekend and we will definitely check them first.

I did check them – all good. It sounds like metal on metal to me, but I haven’t had a chance to poke around underneath just yet.

There’s a heat shield on top of the muffler , if it’s rusted off completely it’ll just sit on top of the muffler and rattle on and off as you move. More so over bumps.

I was thinking this, however – the rattle does not line up with bumps, sudden movements, etc. Before I had a chance to dig into it, I figured that someone might have had the same problem at some point. Once I get it up on the lift this weekend, I'll report back with what was the culprit.

I had a similar sound after I put on a new front bumper. Check the inner front fender liners. They might look solid but if they are not screwed/clipped in they will fold in the wind then rub the tires when you go over bumps.
Hope this helps!

Can Anyone Identify This Sound (Video)

It sounds exactly like when my front fender liner came loose and was rubbing on my tire.

I gave them a good look today and they are definitely pretty beat from the bigger tires, but they are well seated all things considered.
