Loose shifter/linkeage

2003 SR5 2WD.. automatic V6
I’m upgrading my old vehicle. I noticed that the shifter is kind of loose.
A mechanic told me that the part that included the shifter is very expensive. He called it the shifter assembly.. Does anyone have experience with this issue? If so what is the remedy?

Shifter issue

I am currently working on the bushing for my shift cable on the same model and year. I have removed most of the covers and have exposed the assembly. It is held in place with just a few bolts and does not look that difficult to remove. I have seen some on EBay for a little over 100 and 500 for new ones from Toyota. Be careful with the bushing on the cable end - I don't see where Toyota sells it separately but there are some aftermarket suppliers - mine is on the way so can speak to how well they work yet.
