2003 4Runner Sidemarker / Parking Light

I need to replace the front side marker / parking light and it is in a tough spot.

Any advice out there?

I do have the Haynes manual and I have read some other posts...it seems best to remove the headlight assembly to get the socket...any advice?

Bulb numbers in the book and manual indicate bulb number 168...but these do not necessarily translate to what one needs as an amber bulb at Advanced Auto Parts.

Thanks.

I might be easier to remove the headlight to get at it. I have tried to get my hands in there just to see if it would fit in case I ever had to change mine and it was a very tight fit with no room to move much. And the bulb is a 168. They are available in amber or clear. I am assuming you have the amber although I know some people have changed both to the clear ones.

I think you will be looking for a 194 in store. They are the same. You can google if 194's are the same as 168's.

Thanks for the advice. I will check bulb number 194. The 168 is a clear bulb. I have amber bulbs in my 4runner.

Now someone mentioned replacing the regular bulbs with leds and getting a brighter performance...any advice...super bright leds?

thanks.

V-leds. Best customer service I have ever encountered. I have used v-leds throughout my truck and they work perfect.

FYI at Autozone the amber bulb is #168NA, white/clear is #194. They're $5.99/pair here.

I did both of mine: passenger side and driver side. I didn’t remove the headlight for either as I recall, although I thought I might have to. I was able to get to the passenger side okay since I have small hands, but the driver side was a *****.

I found a YouTube video which showed moving the battery—I don’t recall that I removed it, perhaps I did—and the using a 17mm socket (I think) with an extension to place over the base (after unplugging the power plug) and twisting it out. I then used a set of long needle nose pliers to reach in and retrieve the lamp base.

Sorry if this isn’t maybe very clear since I did this a couple of years ago, spending an hour or more scratching my head, searching online and swearing liberally.
