Any suggestions on what tip to get? This is on my mod list to do very soon.

same here. I hope to do this in a few months.

I assume the pipe diameter is the same for the 2006-2009 V8's?

I went to a few local parts stores (autozone, o'reiley's, pep boys) and took a look at what they had. I wanted to see in person what the tip looked like, rather than order something online and have it not be what I expected. I ended up getting one from Pep Boys. It is the same exact style that comes stock with our 4 runners. (2.5 slant cut) It wasn't offered in black, so I scuffed it up and painted it with high temp black paint. Definitley had to bake it in the grill for the paint to stick. Turned out great. I know I'm thread jacking right now, but I'll take a pic and throw it in here...

Not 2 ask a stupid question but is 2.5 the size of the stock pipe or the size of the part being replaced maybe I'm overthinking this but if my pipe is 2.5 I would have to find a muffler that is 2.5 I'd so it would slide over stock pipe correct my goal is to just to get a muffler and extention pipe that's already has the adapter I really don't want 2 have to weld any more fittings and adapters than I have to srry if I made this more complicated than it shuld be I'm a visual person when I did my exaust on my mustang a was dragging half of it in with me to advanced
-Thanks for the help

Both the V8 & V6 use 2.5" piping. If you pull up parts that are listed as compatible with your vehicle they will typically list the inlet & outlet sizes. If you are replacing a whole section you can use the flanges. If you are cutting out a section you will want to look for the flared in/outs that have a slit cut into them to be used with clamps rather than welding style, which do not have the cutouts.
