Which front coils to combine with 5100s?
Hello, I've read about a hundred posts on here but I'm still a bit uncertain about my configuration. I was hoping some of you can steer me in the right direction.
I have an 07 V8 Limited at 140000. The front feels somewhat mushy.
I'd like to level out my truck and get rid of the mushyness and leave the rear stock.. for now. Slight positive rake would be ok.
I have a set of 5100s (f) sitting in my closet and I'm planning on installing those at 0.
Which springs would give me enough lift to level out the vehicle and offer a pleasant ride for the street as well.

A lot of folks on here seem to like the Toytec Supercoils with 5100s. I have a set of Supercoils waiting to be put on the truck - pretty stoked. They do claim a good size lift, not sure if that's what you're after or not.

I went with new OEM springs from the dealer on my '05 and '07 when swapping over to 5100's from Xreas, nice thing about the factory ones is the driver's side spring is about a half inch taller. The ride is like new again, maybe better. You will likely need to go with the third or possibly the top notch to get close to level with the V8 using new stock springs.
You can save some money on springs by buying aftermarket though, like the OME's that were mentioned.
Edit: not sure what notch to recommend with Old Man Emu's, maybe someone will chime in.

You say: stock for now on rear. I’d you get level springs for front are you leaving it alone?
For 5100’s on 0 and leveling with springs OME 883 I would think is a good choice. Or dobinsons C59-300. I would think both of these would provide a 1.5” lift and make it ride really good.

Interesting, I wonder if the half inch bias applies to any of the aftermarket coils, and if not how the crooked geometry affects handling if at all.
OEM was my initial choice as well, but after reading a bit on here, it appears that the 5100s play best at their stock setting. Which brought me here with my question about taller coils

I'm planning on using a moto-carrier and I'm gonna see how much lower the rear end sits with the bike loaded up on that. The weight with the carrier loaded up should be about 520lbs. It would be sweet if someone could approximate how much the oem rear will duck under that load. If I get a big negative rake, then I'll know I need to invest in rear coils as well. But for now, I want to do just the front for better ride quality around town. Thank you for the coil suggestions.

Stock springs are good for about 200 lbs. at 520 you will get sag for sure.

I went with FJ coils all around from MOOG paired with my 5100s. It is definitely the cheaper option but I actually really like the ride. It is quite firm at first but they ease up over a couple thousand miles.
I have the fronts set to .85" and the rear sits a little higher. Does anyone know if I set the 5100s to the next notch will it account for that in lift or does it only have to do with the spring itself?

5100s on just the front or all around?
I believe bilsteins will give you a lift at a higher notch but lifting with the struts is a less preferable option from what i read on here

so, maybe leveling out is not the best option then?
oem springs with the billies might be the way to go if its getting anything more than 1.5 inches of sag

I have run a few springs with 5100's, maybe this will help?
Vehicle: 2004 v8
Rancho RS 2.5" QuickLift Springs: I found these to NOT support my v8's weight during hard impacts/compression. They seemed to make my body roll a lot. Great for slow crawling on medium sized rocks and dirt trails.
King 14x2.5x650 Coils: These were fun, a little more firm than OEM but not bad. I had to swap the baseplate from the stock 5100's out for a flat plate because this spring uses tapered ends. Ride was smooth, not as much body roll taking corners. Nose didn't dive as much while braking. Decent for offroad, but it made me feel more tipsy on the rocks, like they wouldn't settle while I was driving slow.
FJC Front Coils: A little more stiff than OEM but not much, oddly enough they seemed to make my drivers side sag more than the other coils? Strange, right? Roll wasn't bad on the roads at all, nose still dove a bit while braking but not as much as the Ranchos or Kings.
OEM Front Coils: Honestly, I think these rode the best out of all of them. Great for on and offroad use. Smooth rides going down FSR's and up rocks, but also great taking corners and braking on the roads. Price was a huge thing for me too, replacement OEM springs are CHEAP. I did raise my tier up a bit to pre-load the coils to help with the v8 weight, and on hard impacts/compression, they perform great!
I'll be sticking with OEM for my springs until I change out shocks, then I'm sure the pairing will be totally different to find what I like.

This is helpful, thank you. I'm not ready to do all four (and im not sure i need it anyway) and im not looking to run bigger tires anytime soon. I think OEM might be the way to go for me.

Aren't those kings supposed to be used with a 2.5 diameter shock, curious. I'll be adding some weight on the front and don't really need bypasses

Correct- but the bottom plate conversion (to make it flat due to the flat [ground] coil opposed to the OME one with the complete round end) is wider than the original 5100 baseplate making it possible to run a spring meant for a 2.5" body. I think the 5100's are only like 1.9" something diameter which kinda stinks for the spring market.
