Experience with Detroit Axle Parts

Does anyone have experience with these parts? I know the old adage, you get what you pay for, but these guys seems to have great review and great prices.

Bought a complete front end kit for my Jeep from them, trying to save money. The ball joints basically fell apart during install and luckily were the first things I went to install from them. Got a refund from Amazon and spent the money on parts from reputable companies.

Installed uppers and lowers less than 5k miles ago, so far so good. Visually parts looked well made.

Judging by units sold, many install them but just ashamed to admit

i had an UCA replaced, or the joint on it, and now its a greasable blue one like pictures. so far no complaints. wheeled a few times with it since install.

UPDATE: after 2 (two!) winter months (months!!) in WI, this is how ball joint rubber boots and rod ends look. Inquired re warranty, but... damn.

I hate to admit it, but I am seriously considering these UCA and LCA from Detroit Axle... Current cost is like <$200 for a full set of 4. Comparing to prices found on Toyota parts deal for OEM, the LCA's were $342 each and UCA's $277. Hell, even if you buy the OEM bushings and do the press work yourself, you really aren't saving all that much.

I know that OEM is always better but I can't justify a grand more right now. Is there any other compromise that people have tried? Searched for non OEM brands like Moog etc, and they are charging as much as OEM.. Maybe buying the D.A. and replacing the ball joint boots with OEM or something?

I just installed LCAs & front sway bar links from 1A Auto. Prices are reasonable, shipping is fast & free, & parts look beefy. They also have great installation videos on YT.

BTW, I have my OEM UCAs that I had for about 150K. I only replaced them b/c I bought some Tacoma coilovers that came with UCAs. You can have them for the cost of shipping and run them as is or replace the bushings & ball joints. Same for the LCAs I just took off at 236K but they definitely need new bushings.

Don't blame the parts when you treat it like that. Have the decency to either move to the habitable zone or get a Walmart bicycle to abuse.

I used Detroit Axle rear suspension (everything except the subframe, which was a junkyard pull, and trailing arms, which I never found at a decent price) on my '02 Focus after OEM replacements failed to correct a camber problem bad enough to eyeball, and Monroe shocks both failed within 500 miles.

DA parts outlasted the head. (In fact, it's still sitting pretty nice on those after a year of waiting for me to get around to finding a new head for it.)

I have their LCAs, wheel bearings, and tie rod ends currently. So far no issue but I haven't taken them offroad.

I don't typically abuse them, and live in the south (no rust).

I've used their parts on a number of my vehicles. They are not OEM, but they are not terrible. You get what you pay for though.

I bought these for my Silverado and they were horrible. Boots broke in less than a year and when I contacted the company about it they said best they could do is sell me the same parts again for the same price, since they had gone up in price. Lesson learned, don’t by Detroit Axle parts.
