Installed the Victory 4x4 Blitz Bumper w/tube (and winch)

This past weekend I received and installed the Blitz Bumper from @Victory 4x4 on my 2004 Limited V8 (see the full build/maintenance sheet in signature below).

I also installed a Smittybilt 9500lb winch (Amazon URL).

The product and service from Victory were great, no complaints from them. The shipping was a bit of an issue and the shipper ended up losing the whole box, but I wouldn't put that on Victory.

The exact product I bought is located here.
4Runner Front Winch Bumper | Blitz w/Tube | 4th Gen (03-09) - Victory 4x4
You can also find the install instructions PDF for a 5th gen/4th gen here.

Here are some photos with general steps if you plan to tackle this yourself. I did this without removing the entire bumper cover, with as little adjustment as possible.

Here is the before shot;

This is a post cut and bumper removal photo, but you can see what's been removed from the bumper/grill.

I used an angle grinder w/ cutoff wheel, which I don't recommend. A sawzall is going to be easier for most people. I had to cut all of the bottom valance and the bottom 'grill'. I tried to remove the grill without cutting it, but that wasn't going to happen.

I did a bit of cleaning up, but the bumper is going to cover all the edges here, so don't fret too much.

I then removed the front bumper by removing the 4 bolts behind the foam here.

There are 4 nuts on each side which will let you remove the bumper extensions. On the bottom of each of those is two clips holding in a splash guard. I did NOT need to remove the bolts, they were fine so I just pushed the new bumper over them.

I then positioned the bumper to slide on. Have a second pair of hands if you have a winch on this SOB, it's heavy. I did this alone and it added a lot of effort.

Here are some after shots. I used the roller fairlead that came with the Smittybilt winch for a few days, but decided I'd rather have the warn cast iron.

I'll be getting a light bar later, but it would have been an easier install to have it on hand before installing the bumper.

I believe this is my first main how to post on the current rig, so let me know if you have any questions.

Here's a sneak peak of the 1st gen overland trailer build my wife and I are working on. She started a thread over here and will update it soon with the RTT situation and interior build out.

Looks good, and good little write-up. I have a C4 Lo-Pro and winch sitting in my garage waiting for me to not be lazy and install lol. I may try not removing the cover like you did.

Do you have a body lift? I'm assuming the only difference would be stretching the bottom of the cover down a little extra to attach it to the bumper.

as an aside, Victory doesnt offer an option for BLs....big lame in my opinion...If I go with Victory I will have a body lift before it goes on. Expecting to have to drill new holes possibly....unless they come out with a BL edition

Neither does C4, but I believe with this style bumper it won't matter. You don't lift this bumper up since the middle part of the cover stays in place. My factory cover is already "stretched" down to mount at the bottom, and it should be no different with different mounting locations.

The bumper cover would be going up though, you may have a gap at the top of the new lopro bumper where the bumper cover was. Not sure how much "overhang" there is

I'm not sure how much, I'm expecting it to split the difference. I know the top of the cover will go up while the bottom will remain in place. I'm sure it won't be an exactly perfect fit at the top of the new bumper, but we'll see. I think lifting the bumper up the full height of the BL would be too much. Hopefully there's a reason they don't offer those options lol.

No body lift at all. And i'm sure you can do it without removing the cover.

Ride quality?

I thought I read in the 5th gen forums the blitz bumper shakes. That was my only reason for not pulling the trigger. Can you comment on how it rides at highway speeds?

No issues for that at all. Not sure what would cause it to shake other than not securely installing it.

I ended up going with this light bar from amazon

Amazon.com: Rigidhorse 22 Inch LED Light Bar Single Row Flood & Spot Beam Combo 20000LM Off Road LED Light Bar Driving Light for Jeep Pickup SUV ATV UTV Truck Roof Bumper: Automotive

I don't need anything that costs hundreds, as long as this one will keep water out which it has done a fine job of.

3 hours or so. could do it in 1hr now that i did it once before. the second set of hands would go a long way for passing a wrench side to side when bolting the bumper up, and for getting it in place.
