dead throttle, dash lights on after trailer plug mis-wire

05 4runner, I have a cargo box on with lights plugged into the trailer plug. I decided to add a flat plug pigtail to the 7 pole round plug so I didnt have to lose the cargo box lights when using a uhaul trailer.

I mistakenly wired the trailer ground to the backup lights position. First thing that happened, the SRS light came on when I backed out of the driveway. A short drive, walk dog in park, start truck, more dash lights come on, the CEL and VSC TRAC came on. I also noticed the fuel mileage, outside temp bank of lights wasnt on and turns didnt work.

Found one 15A fuse blown, replacing it restored the turns outside temp and fuel mileage, but changed nothing else.

Ive searched here for info, disconnecting the battery, neg, then pos, then both, with waiting periods up to 20 mins had no effect.

Looked up various descriptions of a zero reset, but many of the suggested vids had varying info. As close as I recall, flashing the 4 and 14 poles of the diagnostic plug didnt help. I may have missed a step in the procedure, but its been a really long week on low sleep,...

Can someone give me a simple step by step primer on exactly how to do the reset? Some of the previously suggested vids werent really very clear, and they werent all in exact agreement as to every step. One suggested driving in a straight line up to 25 mph was required after reset, but no others said it was required.

Any other ideas on what I may have cooked with my mis-wire or what to check?

Truck starts, and sounds normal-ish, then a second later drops RPMs and has zero throttle response at all, just idles.

Can anyone suggest a decent (but not gold plated executive grade) diagnostic scanner to buy?

It would be for diagnostic use only, not mounted and full time. Id want a stand alone tool, not one that links to a phone.

Edit: It pays to re-check all the things youve already checked 5 times, in this case, I apparently pulled the ETCS fuse in the dark to check it, and plugged it back in the wrong slot....everything works now. Id still like a diagnostic scanner though.

Some may freak out but id recommend an Autel. Bang for buck is amazing. I have their Maxisys at work for $1,100 that does basically everything including TPMS peogramming. But for recreational use this little scanner looks great at $175 check it out.

Autel MaxiCheck Pro OBD2 Diagnostic Scanner (including EPB/ABS/SRS/SAS/BMS/DPF)US Free

You can pick up cheaper scanners that only do OBDII or ones that claim to do more but I have seen some having issues with them. I have been very happy with Autel despite their questionable business tactics.

I know you said no phone ones, but check out BlueDriver if you get a chance. We have a snap-on at work they’ll use, but we’ve got a couple of these as backups. They work great and offer Mode 6 support as well as scanning specific modules.

Agreed. I have a blue diver and love it. I actually own two other scanners and prefer the blue diver
