Heading to North GA tomorrow morning

Hey guys. Me and a buddy are headed to North GA tomorrow morning to poke around a bit. We are probably going to start in Rome where the beginning of the GA traverse is and see where that takes us.

Anyone else going to be up that way?
If so let me know!

Any tips or good places to go/see ?

Before the pandemic blew up I did a week in Blue Ridge, GA. Did a lot of hiking at Amicalola Falls State Park. We are at a place called Southern Charm which was really good food. Dillard House in Dillard GA is also a good place. I just don’t think anything will be open due to the coronavirus.

Just remember your social distancing and stay safe.

Yeah I’m sure everything will be closed up. We are bringing food to cook for lunch and probably head back before 6 (shelter in place order)
We are only about an hour or so south so not a big deal to just go for a day.

Thanks for the info on places to go though. We will definitely check those out next time once all this is over.

And of course! Thank you.

Been seeing on facebook that N GA police are going to be out and about looking for out of town plates and will be writing tickets.

And with the shelter in place order that goes into effect today, you really shouldn't be out and about.

The medical resources in N GA aren't capable of coping with an outbreak.

We all need to be responsible and work to limit how much travel in order to slow the spread of this virus. Stay home.

It started at 6pm today and I have been home since then. I think what I did was about as “social distant” as it gets. There are plenty of other people having get togethers and b day parties that need your preaching more than I do.

Thanks

They're in the wrong too and are selfish pricks that are going to contribute to this dragging out longer... The more of us that take this seriously, the faster we can get back to our normal lives.

But sure that could be socially distant... But that's not "sheltering in place."

It about not taking unnecessary risks too. Staying at home means you're less likely to get in a wreck, which means resources aren't be used on unnecessary incidents... Keeping beds in hospitals open for those that need it due to this virus.

Your taking this to seriously. I went out before the shelter in place order.... I’m not spreading covid from the inside of my runner. Go argue with someone else.

I agree with jonboy, its not just about YOU. Yes we all want to go out camping and do our regular stuff too. If there is a stay at home order why not follow it? Its not just about spreading the virus, yes you maybe just inside your vehicle and not in contact with other people but what if you stop for gas or anything along the way, what if something does happen you require medical services or a tow, and you are requiring services that an essential worker does need. There are more what ifs by you going out and its not just about spreading, follow the stay at home and we will be able to go out sooner. If there were hundreds/thousands with your same mindset “im only going here” thats how it gets worse.

Georgia only has four exceptions but they’re very broad so it’s hard to determine if what he’s doing actually puts him outside of the law. Here in AL outdoor recreation is one of the exceptions as long as you maintain social distancing—which he’s maintaining.

I think the shelter in place order is needed because of people using their time off from work as an excuse to shop and go to social gatherings. There are a lot of idiots out there who greatly impact those around them.

On another note, he’s doing less harm than someone going to visit family or to get groceries. It’s literally just him and a buddy. LE will give them a warning if they catch them out but honestly I doubt they’re gonna pull them over for driving down the road.

You can’t be too careful but common sense still applies. He’s not going to pass it on with no one around to get it. It’s not like he’s licking deodorant sticks at Walmart lol.

But he did say that he went out before the SIP order so he’s not defying the order. This topic went way too far lol

Just to get back on topic let me chime in. I had never heard of the Georgia Traverse so I looked it up. Oddly I've driven a short section of it back when I was day hiking the A/T. I drove on Indian Grave Gap road and Tray Mountain road. The part I drove was all just gravel forest service roads in pretty good condition.

I’ve heard of a good trail that’s supposed to be off of tray mountain road. Maybe we will find it next time

I'm sure there are others but the only one I know about is the Appalachian Trail that crosses Tray Mtn Rd between Indian Grave Gap and Tray Gap. I hiked from Springer Mtn to Tray Gap and never got to go back and go further.

OP, I didn’t take anything here as “preaching,” @JONBOY345 has seen the same info all of us who live up here have seen and was trying to save you some potential trouble with law enforcement. You’re referencing the statewide SIP order but this was in local news coverage before that, on March 27:

==
Additionally, no person who is a resident of a state, county or city subject to a stay-at-home order or stay-at-home restriction and who is not currently physically present in Blue Ridge, Georgia is allowed to enter the city limits.

Violation of any term of the ordinance is punishable by a civil fine of $1,000 per violation.
==

Maybe you’re good under that definition but I wouldn’t want to try to convince a deputy one way or the other.

Full story here.
