You must be a v8 in 4hi the whole time. It's the brakes holding you on the hill. For us v6 guys it only happens in 4wd. But the v8 guys are always in 4wd.

It's perfectly normal.

settyb: Mine does it in both 2WD and Unlocked 4WD for sure... not sure about Locked 4WD.

ratchet sound

I have the v6 SE and it does it in 2wd but only on severe hills, like San Francisco kinda hills. My gf lives on a hill so i always pick her up and drop her off so the sound is a little annoying. Thanks for the responses, i wont worry about the sound anymore, was just startled by it.

Thanks again!

Wow. Can't believe I saw this post. I just heard this noise this morning when I was parked across the street from my house which I never do. The street has a very, very slight incline but I guess its enough to trigger this. I then drove and it stopped. I thought it was something in the engine compartment that went away after I drove for a few minutes and it warmed up after a cold start.

Cool. No issues. Good news.

If you roll backwards with it in a forward gear, it will activate. I'm not sure about rolling forward with it in "Reverse", but I will try that in a little while.

Ive had this issue for over a year. Ive found that shifting into 2 will keep it from happening and your take-offs on an incline will be smoother and stronger
