JBA UCA post install thoughts - boot not fitting right?

I finally got around to installing my JBA UCA. My stock ball joints boots were torn and leaking grease... so i thought, might as well get whole new UCA with new ball joints!

Sorry, I don't have any pics. Install wasn't too bad. I was able to get them in on my own and as most people have stated, the inner washers are a PITA to squeeze in but I was able to figure out a way to do it on my own.

Driver's side I had to remove some of the brackets to allow for a torque wrench to fit in place. I also had to take out my battery to get the bolt out.

On the passenger side I had to remove some brackets as well to allow for a torque wrench. On this side, I had to remove the 3 bolts for power steering reservoir so I could push a hose out of the way a little to allow the UCA bolt to come out.

I also made the mistake on the first side of not disconnecting the ABS line braket. I popped the knuckle off with a pitman arm remover with the castle nut still in place so stuff didnt go flying everywhere. However, after I got the knuckle free, I removed the castle nut and of course, the UCA shot up and stretched the ABS line. It looked ok. I pushed the UCA down while I removed the bracket. After the install, i took the car for a drive and my VSC, ABS and TRAC lights are on. God the code read while getting an alignment today and confirmed I broke the driver side ABS wire.

Putting the brackets back onto the UCA was a PITA. The instructions state that you may have to bend the brackets to get it in place but I had to drill new holds and tweak the bracket to get the line to not stretch.

After the install I noticed that the ball joint boot is not seating properly allowing grease to come out. This is happening on both sides. Anyone seem anything like this before?

I texted Marlin at JBA today and sent him some pics of the boot. He said he may need to send out some extra boot washers to push the boot up more to the bottom of the UCA.

Hats off to Marlin for answering texts on a Saturday!

Got my alignment today. Was able to achieve a caster of 4.4 and 4.7.

I had mine for 2 years and the boot is the same as yours. Do we have to contact him to get the boot washers?

Yeh, call or msg him on his site (the chat feature) and ask him about the washers. After I got an alignment it doesn't look AS bad but will still add in another washer. I just don't want to have to take off my wheel and knuckle again.

I was searching for a washer that is in two pieces that i could squeeze in and that is held together by some sort of "clip". That way I don't have to take apart the knuckle :T

wow yeh?

Can you pretty much stick your finger under the boot and into the slot where the ball joint moves?

Mine are the same too. The ABS bracket is a pain as I had to physically slide the harness to get enough slack and wrap with electrical tape to protect it.
It's on my list to go back in for a more permanent solution.

Side note, I see you're running the Tundra/Sequoia wheels, which lug nuts did you use with those? Conical seat?
I'm going to try a set out to see if the offset works better with the JBA arms.

Thanks

Stock lugs - mag seating.

Fitment takes tire size and offset into account - I'm running +15 Trail wheels and 1.25" spacers to account for my tire size (whenever they get here).

Great, now I'm gonna have to go look at my UCAs for the boot fitment lol.

yep it is mag seat.

not sure what the the specs are on the wheels anymore but i put on 1.25" spidertrax spacers on a while back. I wanted the wheels to sit out a little further.

Looks like Marlin is going to have a lot of requests for washers!

I would say they need to redesign something or at the very least include extra washers with each sale!!

If you ask me I would think they're going to lose some sales over this "little" need another washer issue, which is a big issue if you ask me, IMHO they should also pay for the addition labor of taking it apart to install the extra washer!!
