I have a 285 on a 9" wide rim, and it's very "square". I really prefer the rim face to be sunk in slightly into the tire (a 305 wide tire would do this nicely on a 9" wheel).
I don't think this would be an issue for mounting... it just might not be aesthetically pleasing, but taste and mileage may vary person to person.
+20 is probably high for a 9" wide wheel, that's over an inch deeper into the chassis than my wheels. I don't think there'd be UCA contact, but it certainly would invite problems. Wheels that wide should be very close to 0, or more towards -10/-12 for that real "flush" look with the fenders.
Sorry, gotta go, hope this helps

I'd go with +1 over the +20 to be sure, especially if he's gonna upsize at any point.
I'm gonna put 295s on my 7.5s.
