Rear Sway Bar Bushing install question

Do you need the rear jacked up just to replace the rear sway bar bushings?

No. You may need to disconnect the end links though

I did mine a few weeks ago, and I had to remove the wheel, jack up the truck, as well as place a second jack under the rear axle to push the sway bar up for the driver side. The passenger side was easy to do while the truck was on the ground with no jacks. 2008 SR5 4WD.

I did mine on the ground. (2008 V8) But it was a PITA. Really tight and tough to get leverage on a wrench at times.
Would of been much easier if it was on stands.

I replaced mine while it was on the ground and it wasn't too bad. I would imagine it's a little easier without the tire to work around though. Lift size, tire size, and wheel spacing probably slightly changes the difficulty per person too

As others have said, it can be done on the ground.

The sway bar is a big spring with 4x connection points. When there's pressure on one of these connection points it's gonna be a real bugger to work loose or put back on.

Taking the tension out of the spring by having all 4 points inline would likely make the job a lot easier. As jacob7071 said, disconnecting the endlinks will make everything a lot easier as that's now just a pipe going through some bushings on the axle.

My rear sway bar was rusted onto the truck... tension or not, it was a bugger to get off.
