Rear Axle Seal / Bearing Replacement

Hey Dudes,

This video shows you how to perform a Rear Axle Seal / Bearing Replacement on your rig using a SST (Special Service Tool) made by my buddy Duane who makes them out of his home in Omaha, Nebraska.

This is Part 1. Part 2 will be coming out soon.

It's a bear of a job.. using the tool was an absolute life-saver, but man.. the 20 ton press was STRUGGLING getting the bearing onto the nitro axles I decided to upgrade to. I bent quite a few things in the process lol.

Maybe the Nitro axles aren't quite right. The spec only needs to be off a little to make a huge difference. My guess is the diameter of the shaft where the bearing rides is off by a few thousands. The bearings do fit fairly tight onto the OEM axles, but my 20 ton press didn't load up hardly at all pressing the bearings on.

Do you have a link to those Nitro axles? I'm guessing the reason for the upgrade is they are considered stronger than OEM?

yea they are chromoly axles. I decided while I was doing the bearings I may as well spend a few hundred bucks extra and go with the nitro axles since I'm fuly locked and on 35's.

I agree that it could be something as silly as the coating being slightly thicker than stock, but man.. it was a struggle. lol

Toyota 8" Nitro Rear Chromoly Axle
