5th Gen Power Stop Z36 kit

Hey all,

Previous owner said he did a 5th gen brake upgrade, and I had to replace the front calipers he used because of seized pistons last year. The rear calipers looked fine, but I replaced the fronts with these Power Stops S6278 which are for a 5th Gen.

I need new rotors and figured I'd go big (live in CO, so lots of mountain driving) and get these Power Stop Z36 front and rear setup. Just want to make sure they're good to go, and shouldn't have issues with the calipers.

Reviews are mixed, but I guess I also just want to double-check before I pull the trigger in case there's some weird fitment issue I'm not thinking of here.

If that rotor kit is for 5th Gens you may experience issues with the rear rotors not being exactly centered because the rear rotor for the 5th Gens have a larger center/hub hole which has for some members on here allowed the rotor/s to be slightly off centered which causes the parking brakes to drag, even if you are lucky enough to get both rears installed perfectly centered on first try if you ever have to remove either rear tire the rotor could get off centered since the tire being installed would be the only thing that was keeping them centered.

Haven't heard anything bad about the Power Stop rotors, but I would buy the fronts and rears separately to avoid issues on the rears.

Both generation rear rotors are the same diameter and thickness but different hub bore. But the 4th-gen rear calipers actually have larger pistons than the 5th-gen, 2" vs 1.89". Same brake pads too.

Good advice then! Glad I didn't hit buy. I was going to pass on that kit anyway I've been reading that drilled/slotted for off-road use are a no-no because of debris getting caught in them.

I'm thinking of just doing:

FRONT:

5th Gen Centric Fronts These

or

5th Gen Raybestos 980784

or

RAYBESTOS 980784PER

REAR:

4th Gen Centric Rears CENTRIC 12044128

or

4th Gen Raybestos 96929 rears

Thoughts on those? Centrics come up a lot for a good OEM style replacement. I need something good though since I'm driving down long stretches of steep grades on mountain highways here.

As for pads, Akebono all around. Sounds like it doesn't matter if they're 4th or 5th gen pads then since they're the same size. Am I reading that right?

I found that out too about the drilled and slotted feature can trap dust and mud which actually creates more heat, which I did notice after several trail rides. So I buy the Z36 pads and use the Z24 rotors and have been happy with them. Just can't get the good price on the full Z36 kit when it comes along. @Ed_C good stuff, didn't know that about the Calipers.
