Wiring help: light bar to come on with brights?

I have a LED light bar that came with a harness/relay that is wired up like the diagram below (pardon my amazing drawing skills):

I bought this switch from Air On Board to replace the one that came with the light bar, and I'd like to wire it up so that the light bar switches on and off with the brights when the switch is activated.

Now this would be very straightforward except that Toyota uses negative switching for the headlights so I can't simply tap into the high beam's positive lead. Air On Board included the diagram below with the switch, and I am confused about the part in the box about the second relay.

Where on that diagram should I connect the high beams to the second relay (and which wire should I tap, negative or ground)?

Does anyone have other ideas on how to get the bar to come on with the high beams that don't require a second relay? Any help is appreciated, I'm a noob when it comes to wiring so the simpler, the better.

Ground the relay trigger to the switched ground of the hight beams. That worked for me when I did my Hella driving lights. Note when the high beams are off there will be some potential on the ground for the high beams since the positive is not switched. My accessory switch would light up like it was on because of the until I installed a diode to stop the potential before the switch. But that may not be an issue with your switch.

Did you get this resolved? I've got 5th gen but this might help? I just received my switches and came with this diagram.. it shows diode should be installed. Haven't done my install as waiting on my Gobi rack. Lots of folks here have the switches installed hopefully someone will chime in.

Awesome, thanks for the replies and diagram guys. It looks like all I need to do is hit up Radio Shack for a diode to get it set up the way I want. I'll report back once I give it a try.

Did you ever figure this out? I've been trying to wire my LED light bar to turn on and off with the brights as well. I just can't seem to make it work. I've followed both sets of directions listed. Spent a lot of time on Google searching for ideas. Just not sure what I'm doing wrong. Also, I was trying to bypass having an extra switch (interior switch), so the only way it would work is by turning the brights on and off (no other switches). I'm now planning to order a switch an see if I can figure it out.

Sorry, I forgot to update this thread, but I did get it wired up and working as planned using a diode from Radio Shack and Diagram 2 from 2chains's post. I'll try to take some pictures of what I did and post them up.

When wired up this way and with the light bar switch in the ON position (and key in the ignition in the ON position):
  • Light bar is ON when the headlight switch is OFF
  • Light bar is OFF when headlight switch is turned to low beams
  • Light bar is ON when headlight switch is toggled to high beams

I don't think that I'd wire the light bar without a switch, as there are situations where I'd want to use the high beams without the light bar (such as flashing them at oncoming drivers without totally blinding them).

pics?

I keep running across this thread, as I'm trying to figure out how to wire my LED light bar to come on with the brights as well. I've got the in cabin switch working perfectly, and i see the AOB diagram 2, but my extent of electrical skill is pretty minimal, so I'm not sure where I'm supposed to tap into the bright light trigger.

Do i run something off of the relay cables in the engine compartment or am i tapping into a skinny wire in the dash panel somewhere?

Any pics you have of your setup would be great. Or, even just an explanation on the bright light piece of the setup.

Thanks in advance!

Should be red w/green stripe, it'll be the same color wire on both driver and passenger high beams
