I only have one rear cat, so I can’t speak to your vehicle specifically. However if you’re getting a direct fit MagnaFlow replacement cat, like I got for my Y-Pipe (see my parts list), then you shouldn’t have any issues with CEL. The direct-fits are made to be replacement OEM parts, and will have the O2 sensor bung included if necessary. MF should make a bolt-on replacement cat for your vehicle that’s NY compliant if you check their site.

If you did universal cats you would probably need the O2 sensor bungs welded on as well. I wouldn’t worry about the quality of the weld job as a factor. If an exhaust shop with good reviews couldn’t weld exhaust pipe, they probably wouldn’t be in business.

Yeah you would have to leave it there. Drop it off the day before, so vehicle is cold in the morning. I was fortunate enough to have a friend follow me both times, so I didn’t have to do a $70 Uber. Overall took 5 days if you include day I dropped off and day I picked up. Also like I had mentioned in an earlier post on this thread, the DT ST had quite the fitment issues. I believe the job ended up being more difficult and time consuming than expected.

Thanks for the info! Hope to finally get it done this summer. Did you ever consider just getting a straight Y-pipe without the third cat? Wonder if that would trigger the check engine light.

I'm not sure about pricing, but I found a set of two magnaflow OEM grade cats (#51005) and the standard Y-pipe (#93655) for $600... not sure if that's a decent price.

Yes it would trigger the CEL if you got the straight Y-pipe. But that’s exactly what the Blox O2 spacer is for, removing that CEL. I didn’t consider it myself because I wasn’t the one doing the install. Due to the legality aspect, exhaust shops / installers won’t do that kind of work (unless you have a real good relationship with them). I went into a few exhaust shops to talk over the job and get estimates and they would always slip in something about “gotta keep the cats — gotta have the cats” into the convo. I guess on the off chance I’m state police? Hah.

Yep #93655 is the Y-Pipe/Cat I got. Was $236 on Amazon, $280 after shipping/taxes. If you are going to stay legal that would be the one to get.

As for the (2) #51005’s .. I actually had those on my parts list originally. But I wasn’t sure if those cats are meant to go directly after the headers, or if they’re only for the rear. I ended up going with the G-Sport cats to play it safe, but I would give Magnaflow a call and ask.

Overall $600 does seem like a decent price for all (3)

Thanks for the initial post on the parts you used. This is likely the route and parts I will go when I do my 2003. Should be virtually identical unless I decide to go with long tubes. But I'll still run the cats.

I got in touch with the shop, gave me a $1k estimate which is great compared to other places. Quick question, did you need to buy new gaskets (other than the one at the engine) and clamps? If you want to get it tuned, there is a shop in MD that was able to tune the ECU. By any chance do you have pics of the pipes underneath?

By any chance, do you have a pic of the piping? Finally got all the parts and will be doing it in september!
