5th gen coils: 887/889 OME Lift for 4th Gen

Hi all,

My local shop is recommending OME 887/889 5th gen coils and OME nitro sport shocks for my 4th gen v6 lift. I am adding some additional weigh in a low profile winch bumper 120 lbs with winch) and sliders, but I am a bit worried this is gonna be too much lift.

I would ideally land around 2-2.5" once settled. Has anyone had experience with this coil combo or, in the alternative, had experience with the 885/895 combo? -- I would be eager to hear any thoughts.

EDIT: Considering going with 887 up front with 895 in the rear -- front will have 150ish lbs extra weight but I am not adding a rear bumper/tire carrier. Hoping to retain a slight rake without the rear being sky high.

Bump -- I am still discussing with my local shop. They are insisting that the OME 885 is not sufficient to handle my V6 with a Victory blitz bumper (68 lbs), Warn m8000 (55 lbs), skids (120lbs) and sliders (120 lbs) and want me to go with the 887. Extensive searching has shown me some horror stories of the 887s giving way more lift than intended on a v6, even with aftermarket bumpers.

Does anyone have experience with 885s and an aftermarket/bumper winch on a v6? Are they sufficient or do I really need a stiffer/taller spring?

I have no experience with these coils, but from reading through the Tacoma forum just now, they are the same weight rating? Just 5mm more lift with the 887s? How big of tire you plan on running? Springs do settle over time and the shop may be trying to account for that.
What I do know from my experience with 600# king coils with 2.5" of lift and a crap load of weight on my 5th gen, is they do sag and they are at their limit but still holding pretty well after 4 years. In the end they can't force you to put the 887s on, go with your gut and if you not happy 6 months from now you'll have to switch them out. Hopefully someone will chime in here soon. Good Luck!

I don't have a definitive answer but am looking for a similar amount of lift and debating 884/885s (v6 w/ shrockworks front bumper). There's more info in this thread on 887s that may help.

IIRC 885s are recommended for a stock-ish v8 or a v6 with an aftermarket front bumper. A guy here runs 884s with 5100s set on the first notch and has the stance I'm after (but his is a 2WD v8 with a DO front bumper vs. my 4WD v6 with a SW bumper). Will eventually run the numbers to calculate properly but am in no rush.

Will be interested to see which route you go and how much lift it gives you.

Edit: from the link above
