All this is a good info.
My hatch motor also sometimes quite and just wouldn't pull the hatch into locked position, but also wouldn't release the hatch.
Same time my driver window loses the auto-open/close ability.
And YES, the 30 min disconnected battery reset works and and hatch motor lock works again. But I'm getting tired of having to continuously reseting it and would like to see some more permanent fix.
Is this a sign of rear ECU failing? Do I need to replace it? Any troubleshooting steps?

I had to replace the rear window when the defroster exploded it a couple weeks ago. While putting the window in, the hatch partially engaged the latch. When I tried to open it, the button is dead. Nothing when unlocking the doors. I have to manually reach in with the window all the say down to release the latch.
I checked the connectors, all good.

I am going to try this in the morning, hope it works!

I couldn't wait. This was easy since I left the interior panel off as I am running a camera wire this weekend.
It worked!!!
Thanks so much! This forum is a great resource!

Something else.
That rear latch seems to get mucked up over the years.
Cheap to replace the mechanism nowadays too... Under $100.

Hey, brother. Sorry for late reply.
I did figure it out. It was all in the hatch lock assembly. I replaced it and everything worked just fine
