Coolant hose help

Can someone help me out here. 4.7 V8 UZ

Noticed that the fan has shredded this hose.

What does the hose do?

Can I drive it like this until I have the part?

Are you talking about the hose that runs on top of the radiator? It's for the overflow tank.

Yes, that is it.. See the pic? Is it dangerous to drive until I get part?

I'd replace before driving. You're going to be losing coolant everytime you drive. The tank is there to catch the coolant as it expands from getting hot.

Ok, thank you. Is there a way to tell if my coolant is low? Does the overflow tank reflect that?

If the reservoir (overflow tank) is dry it might be a little low. You can also wait until the truck is cooled off for a couple hours and open the radiator cap. Fluid should be right at the neck or at least visible above the fins of the radiator.

Thanks for the help. Can you help me a little more?

I looked in the rad, it’s a little low, not up to the neck , but I can definitely see fluid closer to the top when I flash a light. If I add a new overflow hose, will fluid be drawn from the overflow tank? At that point, I should know if I need to add more fluid? Does my question make sense?

Thanks
J&T

Sure it makes sense. The fluid will flow back and forth when it needs to. So there is still fluid in your reservoir?

Yes. The overflow tank is quite full. The hose that connects the rad to the tank is cut.

I think you can replace the hose, start it up at home, keep an eye on the temp guage, and let it run for about 15 or 20 minutes. By that time the reservoir will have emptied if the system is really low, and then you can get some Toyota coolant and refill it with how much it needs. It's probably not low at all if you caught it soon enough. Good Luck!!

Coolant hose help

I had the same thing happen in the middle of a 1500 mile round trip a few years ago. You can drive it but keep any eye on the coolant level. See below for part number.

Was not able to find coolant hose. But, they have fuel like hose. Is that fine for a substitute? Thanks for the help.

As long as it's the right diameter and will fit on the nipples. Hopefully you can bend it easy enough to stay in place. You may need a tie strap or 2 to make it stay put.

Does anyone have a pic of how I am supposed to mount the new hose. Is there a clip or something to hold it down? I just don’t understand how it drooped so low in my original pic for this thread.

I'm trying to upload a photo from my phone where I have removed the top plastic cover on top of the radiator so you can see where the coolant hose clips too, you don't have to remove the cover to clip the hose in but it's the only way to show you how it clips in....but if it doesn't load, if you look under the engine side of the plastic top cover that covers the top of your radiator/top of the fan shroud you will see 3 clips that are a part of the fan shroud that hose presses/clips into.
