What all are you able to monitor with your ScanGauge? I see Trn Temp, what is that? I'm thinking of getting one, but have an '03 V8 and not sure if I can monitor enough to make it worth while. Thanks.

With my Scanguage, I monitor, trans temps, coolant temps, battery voltage and MPGs or MPH(you can calibrate MPH if you have bigger tires) there a lot more things you can monitor but these are the most worthwhile for me.

I have no clue lol. I know I had to enter a special code into my Scanguage since the early 4runners did not have some feature to have the scanguage read the temps.

Yeah, that's the conclusion I came to that maybe it wouldn't give the older 4Runner much data but sounds like in your case it does. Maybe I'll give it a try, thanks!

Bike Rack Mods | Return to Directory

So a bit back, I mentioned that I bought this Saris bike roof rack second hand to take a bike to Illinois with me. It has one single bike rack and one tandem bike rack. Each bike sits in a little tray, that runs front to back of the car, and sits on roof rack crossbars that mount to the factory rack.

The single rack uses one (1) of these arms (pictured below) to both secure the tray to the front crossbar and to hold onto the bike frame. To mount the tray to the rear crossbar, there is a little block that goes between the tray and the crossbar

The tandem bike rack uses an additional arm instead of the rear block, to hold onto the longer frame, for a total of two (2) arms. The tray for the tires is identical in profile, just longer for a tandem bike. The problem is that the arms have no way to secure them when a bike isn't attached, so on a normal sized bike, the rear arm would be flopping around.

The goal of this project is to replicate the functionality of the rear block, so I can mount two single bikes on the roof

So here is the final product! Aluminum flat bar and stainless hardware, so rust won't be an issue. Two bolts are used instead of a T-section to keep the tray straight. The top/flat aluminum piece was slightly undersized because I had initially made bends in the bottom piece that were too sharp, decreasing the overall span. When I flattened it out, the bottom piece got longer, so it looks a little funny. Still works and I'm using pretty limited tools here and didn't want to make another if this one still worked. May trim down the ears to get them to the same length, but that would just be for aesthetics


Additionally, the previous owner lost a piece of a small bracket and replaced it with some bent piece of soda can. I didn't like that, so I made a little replacement piece out of some left over aluminum

Bought a MTB a few weeks ago because paved roads are for nerds. No 4runner mods recently, but I have been more active like doing stuff outside etc which is always good

Yep. Specialized rock hopper comp 29.

My buddy is into MTB, so picked up an entry level bike to get my feet wet, but I already want to get something nice lol. Picked it up less than a year old, 2nd hand for almost half of retail. I really capitalized on the fall of the COVID outdoor splurge haha

I have a 2014 Giant full suspension 26er that I need to dig out of the storage shed and actually go ride.. I used to ride on a regular basis but the last 3 years have been slacking quite significantly. My brother just upgraded to a 29er and I have really big doubts about being to keep up at all anymore between lack or riding and his much easier-rolling bike.

I can't believe how expensive bikes have gotten.. when I first got into mountain biking you could get a pretty badass setup for like 1500 bucks.. now that barely even scratches the surface of what is considered a mid-level bike if you want to be on 29" wheels and have full suspension.

Yeah the nice bikes are much more expensive than I realized. Luckily I picked this one up off a guy that bought it and realized it wasn't for him, so I saved a bunch of his loss. but nice full suspension bikes wowza, those are expensive!
