I connected some extra 3/8" vinyl tubing from the power steering flush with the barb, and zip tied it in two spots to the frame. I'm missing a splash guard, so didn't have clearance issues with that. It also clears the tire without issue, probably because I'm still on 265/65r17s lol
Oooo, good idea! I always hated where the AC drained (even though I don't live in rustville). I still have my barb from the PS/transmission fluid flush, I should put it back to work (although I do have the RadRubber splashguard replacements)!

Yeah, its definitely odd that it just spits on the frame like that. Can't imagine why I wasn't designed to drain somewhere that makes sense. Thankfully it doesn't really snow a whole lot where I live in Virginia, but this 4runner came from Pennsylvania. Its got some residual crusties from its life up there, and I didn't really know to look out for that kinda of stuff when I was 16 and bought it.

I can't take complete credit for the idea, it came from Extending your A/C drain tube (to help prevent frame rust) by @Bluesky 07 . I routed mine slightly differently, but his fit through the splash guards.

I just barbed the line and followed the frame until it poked out behind the splashguard and pulled it down - used the same lower zip tie point in your pic, thanks!

PS - I kinda wanna clean the evap now because of that thread, but I don't really have any weird smells/blockages.

Sweet! My A/C has recently gotten low on freon, which makes me worried about the evap core now lol. Gotta poke a bit and see if any dye is coming from the drain or anywhere near the compressor.

Tires!
I finally got some tires to mount on the free FJ Cruiser/Early 5th gen trail wheels (See here for more info in picking up the wheels). Picked up some 265/70r17 Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws lightly used on Facebook Marketplace to replace my current tires. I'm still on the stock suspension, so anything bigger would probably run into issues. I bought them off a pavement princess 5th gen owner that changed them out for something else. Hopefully thats not a bad sign haha. The Falken's have a date code of 5219, so they're just about 9 months old now. I'm pretty satisfied and they still have the little fingers on the side too! I'll be getting them mounted soon, and will update with pictures!

Old Tire Info
Just some interesting information on the old Wild Country Sport XHT tires. They were on the 4runner when I bought it in 2016, the date code is sometime in earlyish 2015, and I found on old Goodyear receipt from 186,411 miles dated 7/30/16 with a tread depth of 10/32. They currently have 3-4/32 on them. After some googling, the original tread depth was around 12/32, so with 211,800ish miles at the moment, these tires only lasted probably 30,00ish miles. Definitely not the highest quality tire, both in terms of tread wear and traction, but they worked for the 4 years I've had them.

06+ Headlight Update
Headlight bulbs are delayed in shipping. I recently learned from a local subreddit that Amazon is no longer routing through a UPS distribution center in my area, so things are going to take 2 weeks even when using prime shipping.

Welding Project and Dirtbike Excuses
To continue to tease @montijo505 , I didn't get to make any progress on my welding project this weekend. It was sprinkling on and off most of Saturday, which is not necessarily good for welding outside. Heres a weld that I thought looked good as more teaser material. Its a piece of 1/8" plate welded to 2" square tubing to make it thicker for threads. The 1" square is bolted with a flange to the main contraption. Also a bracket I made to hold something round, I'm definitely learning that small things are difficult to make.

Instead, my friend and I worked on our dirtbikes. Its not necessarily 4runner related, but I figure I better provide a good excuse for not working on my welding project. I unfortunately didn't get any pictures of this weekend's bike wrenching, so I attached some older ones for viewing enjoyment. My bike is an Honda xr200r that I bought during an internship where I was away from family and friends and bored after work. It was kind of abused by the previous owner, so it made for a good project. I've already done a top end rebuild with new valves, cylinder bored +0.5mm, and new Weisco 65.5mm piston. All of this was done on a coffee table in a different apartment with the bike on the second floor lol. I did get the full security deposit back too! Its been sitting kind of sitting recently, and last had ethanol gas in the tank. This weekend we cleaned the carb out really well, drained the tank, filled with fresh ethanol free gas, and its back up and well! My friends has a Kawasaki KLR250 project dual sport and we cleaned the carb, replaced the main jet, replaced the main jet again, then installed a new stater.

The welding project is not a dirt bike carrier either lol. I already have the Aluminum HF carrier, and it works great! Although I would eventually like to make a raising and lower mechanism, since it is hard to unload by myself.

Heres a picture from a few months ago, I have the seat and plastics, they're just not attached here. Also an older picture of tearing down the top end from the rebuild.

You're gonna love the Falkens, they're awesome. Guess I'll have to wait on the other project....

I just bought a Hi Lift so need to weld something up to attach to my tire carrier. Rigd makes one but it costs like three times more than my jack lol.

Thats good to hear! I saw the hi lift, that was a good deal! Certainly cheaper to fabricate something, I'll be interested to see what you make!

Did you get the wheels powder coated? Or is that a secret too?

No, they're probably not going to get powder coated. It would be really cool, but I think I'd rather put that money towards something more functional like the tires, headlights, lift, etc. Maybe one day!

I may rattle can them at some point, we'll have to see how they look. I kinda like silver on beige, but I dunno. Black and beige also looks good in some scenarios

Thank man, appreciate the kind words. I have the Harbor Freight Titanium Flux 125. I think I got it on sale for $170. The wire that comes with the welder is mediocre, so when I finished that up, I got the Blue Demon E71TGS flux core wire from Amazon and its miles better. Its perfect for me since I don't have access to 220v or place to store gas bottles while I'm at school.

I'm no expert but this does really well for a flux core welder. I think most of the benefits come from it being a DC inverter style welder. Not a lot of spatter, and the dials (which are usually missing on cheaper welders in favor of a min/max current switch) make it better to dial in all the settings.

Here is the welder link: Titanium Easy-Flux 125 Amp Welder

Wheels and Tires Mounted! | Return to Directory
I finally ended up getting the wheels and tires mounted up! I got them mounted at Walmart, and they did a surprisingly good job. I've heard the Wildpeaks are a bit tricky to balance, but I've had them up to 70mph without any vibration issues. I was a bit worried, considering they removed the stick on wheel weights from one of the FJ wheels and left another on, while adding their own weights too. Everything ended up great, here's some pictures

Before: 265/65r17 Wild Country Sport XHT on 17x7.5 +30 Stock SR5 Wheels
Was hoping to get some good pictures on top of this parking garage for some natural lighting, but they had the top floor blocked off.

After: 265/70r17 Falken Wildpeak AT3W on 17x7.5 +15 FJ Cruiser/Early 5th gen Trail Edition Stock Wheels
The parking garage pictures turned out much better at night! I am really liking the FJ wheels and the silver wheel on band-aid beige seem to work well together. The 265/70r17s don't rub much on pavement on pavement, I'm sure that will be different off road. Suspension is still stock with 212k miles on it.

I also am not sure how I feel about the center caps. Initially, I didn't like them because they poked out a lot, but they're growing on me! Here are some pics before I put the caps on:

Rub Report: 265/70r17 on Sock Suspension
I'm editing this in after having them on for a monthish and will update with any rubbing I encounter on this setups.

I only notice rubbing when turning close to full lock in an off camber situation on pavement and when braking hardish and turning. Slowing down from 50ish mph, which dove the nose a little, and u-turning caused a decent amount of rubbing. I need to move the inner fender liner forward, just haven't gotten to it yet.

700 Mile Drive Without Issue!
I recently took a 700 mile round trip to a second round of job interviews for a potential internship, which means more money to throw at the 4runner! As expected, there were no major issues with the 4runner along the way. Everything went smoothly and I managed to cross 212k miles! This was the last drive on the old tires as well! I also passed an interesting towing arrangement while out an about: an RV, pulling a trailer/dolly combo, pulling a jeep, with a hitch carrier, holding a grill.

Valve Cover Leak
I like to check the oil every time I fill up the tank, whats the point of a dipstick if it doesn't get used? While doing this for the past few months, I noticed a slight valve cover leak that I need to attend to at some point. Although its been about 3200 miles since the last oil change and the level is only down about 1/8" on the dip stick

*Sad Evaporator Core Noise*
One of the reason's I relocated the A/C drain with clear hose, was to help me see if there was any dye leaking from the system into the drain. I've had the A/C recharged at a shop about once every year in the mid summer, and it always lasts for the rest of the year. This was before I really knew about 4runners and figured it was just because it was an old A/C system. Now that I know what I know now, I pieced together I must have the dreaded evap core leak. It finally gave out this year during my trip. I figured exap core, and when I went to change the tires and wheels, the clear drain hose confirmed dye was escaping the system. I figure I should probably replace everything in the system, evap core, lines, heater core since its in there too, compressor maybe, but am interested in any opinions. I'll do a full writeup on the evap core replacement when I get to it, although I might just recharge it as a band-aid for now. If its still only a once a year recharge, I might limp it to next spring, just after plastic breaking season but before hot as balls summer.

See if you can find some Sequoia caps. Looks like they will fit and don't stick out.
