Appreciate help picking a Tire for my 3" lift 4th Gen

Hi all,

I would appreciate any thoughts/experiences with the following tires on your 4Runners. I have a 2008 SR5 V6 and I am soon receiving my OME 885/895 2.5-3" lift and need a new tire to go with it!

My goal is: C rated 32(ish) inch tire that will fit in the stock spare location (normal v6 hitch).

Right now my top choices are:

255/75/17 K02 (C Load) -- (the most expensive and least aggressive option).

255/75/17 Grabber X3 (C Load) -- (Never owned a MT, but I have heard good things about the X3 and the XO team is moving to them).

275/70/17 Falken AT3W (C Load) -- (Really like the look of these, but worried about rubbing and fit in the spare location. Also heard they are hard to balance).

If you have any experience with the above tires, or have suggestions for an OME lifted truck, I am all ears! Appreciate any feedback folks are willing to share.

Cheers!

I have run Falken AT3W for over 40,000 miles so far and have not had a single issue balancing them. I had them installed at discount and they rebalance every 5000 miles. Never very far out if at all when I go back in.

You can’t go wrong with the ko2 tires. They’re a best seller at tire rack, and there’s a short video about them on the tire rack website.

Mud tires aren’t designed to be used every day on pavement. They’ll be loud, and wear out faster than AT tires.

I have AT3W's right now in 285/70R17. I like them because they are quiet and are wearing great. I will likely get some cooper STMAXX's next round. Hear great things about them also

K02's are the best way to go in my opinion. They've never let me down. Road noise is barely noticeable, overall great traction, plus they look great - I love them! My experience has been with E load, but that doesn't change too much in this aspect

Also on lift suggestions - at 3", I think it's definitely worth investing in some high caster UCA's to help with the alignment (if you haven't already).

I also suggest some spacers or new wheels with a decent amount of backspacing, but that's personal preference because a skinny stance with a 3" lift just looks kinda weird to me. If you think it looks ok though, save the money and don't get them

Have you looked into 255/80/17's. Just push the fender liner foreward and you're gtg. They'll fit aired down in the spare tire location.

Falken Wildpeak ATW3 265/70-17 AKA 32" x 10.5" mounted on 5th Gen OEM Toyota wheels so 15 mm offset instead of the original 30 mm which caused rubbing on the upper control arm. I have a full size spare tire too, no issues.

I was looking at Method and aftermarket wheels to fit my Toytec / Bilstein 3" lift kit, something to keep my rig on the narrow side, but I could not find anything. Moreover, the 5th GEN Toyota 4runner rims look good, are cheap, replacements are easy to find, and fit without a lug nuts kit.

I did some serious off-roading in the Eastern Sierras and cut a tire wall... Discount Tire put a new one without questions for about $25

lower positive offset means the wheel is sticking out further from the UCA. How did that cause rubbing? It doesnt make sense.

I’ll also vouch for the 255/80/17s. I’m running toyo open country AT2s with a 3” lift and love them. I’ve even gotten the spare to fit fully inflated

Another vote for the AT3W's. They are quieter, lighter, and better on wet pavement than a KO2. For all of that you give up a very small amount of durability you won't notice unless you are doing crazy rock crawling.

Size wise the 275 size you picked will definitely fit, and the spare will be just a hare thicker. That said, my vote would be on a 255. Tall skinnys just work well with our rigs.

Sticking out further from the UCA means it swings outward further and can rub the body mount, fender, or frame. However, not enough offset it can rub the UCA when turning or the spindle preventing you from mounting the wheel.

I went from 30 to 15 positive. The 07 4runner OEM 30mm offset wheels with the 265/70-17 were rubbing on the OEM upper control arm. Not sure why but I had rubbing marks to prove it.
Swap to +15 offset = problems solved without ruining my ride
