C4 Fabrication 5th Gen Fuel Skid on 4th Gen

After a recent trip to the Ozarks I came home to find that a real fuel tank skid plate was in order. Two very similar equipped rigs traveling nearly the same line. Me with an OEM skid and my buddy with an aftermarket. I came out with the worst of it.

That had me on the lookout for a some real fuel tank protection. I have been a fan of @C4 Fabrication products since I got a pair of their sliders in their first group buy. The problem is that C4 only markets a 5th gen fuel tank skid.

After looking at everything I could find I realized that the main contenders appear to market their 4th and 5th gen fuel skids using the same images. My Ozark companion had a 5th gen skid mounted on his 4th gen. After talking with Caleb at C4 he could not confirm fitment of the C4 5th gen fuel skids on a 4th. Pretty confident of my findings I ordered one. Figuring worse comes to worse I know some local fabricators and welders.

I placed the order and just happened to have a friend who is an RV Lifer near C4's facility the next week. Caleb worked a minor miracle and had fuel skid handed off in less than a week. That saved me the $70 flat rate shipping fee.

Thursday I picked up the skid. The RV Lifer kids were excited to hand it off to me.

Some comparison.

This thing probably weights 65lbs or so. It is solid and the welding is top notch. Cuts are clean.

I thought the cutouts were pretty cool so I had a little fun with it. I think that might be a cool mod for the future though.

Mounting it up. I could lift the OEM tin can up there. Not so much this with this one.

It all bolted up without issue. The only minor adjustment was to bend an angle on one of the legs a little bit to match the angle of the mounting surface. So In the game of aftermarket it was perfect.

Something old. Something new.

All mounted up. Don't mind the paint runs. My 9 year old daughter wanted to help paint. That's OK hppefully it gets a little marked up soon.

All that to say, order at your own risk but from my experience the C4 5th Gen fuel skids bolted right up to my 4th gen.
