Cool AC just stopped working after being ice cold

06 sport v8 58k miles

About 3 months ago I had a mechanic put on new brake pads and rotors, and replaced the front driver side caliper.

I dont believe I used the ac all year but last year it was working fantastic. Now when I turn it on the light goes on but the air is just warm, same temp as the car already. This isnt user error.

When you turn the AC on you normally get increased rpm and you hear the compressor/blower kick on, i dont hear any of that. Its like nothing happens at all.

I noticed the compressor is a denso, does that mean it was replaced already or is that toyota stock?

On past cars when the ac dies iniust live with it, but i put too much money into the 4runner to let it go unfixed. Any suggestions? I know almost nothing about AC other than a compressor requires freon and some hoses, a clutch and clutch relay. Where to start? Take it to mechanic and have him diagnose it?

Thanks to any replies in advance

I have a 2005 SR5 with 150,000 miles. My AC compressor went out after 12 years. Mechanic tested the old one with dye and found leak at Compressor. After replacing compressor I have good AC again.

Amazon.com: Denso 471-1413 New Compressor with Clutch: Automotive

Amazon sells a Denso for $200. I bought it for him and he charged $200 to install, evac the system and recharge.

Don't try this yourself. You need special equipment.

DENSO IS THE OE SUPPLIER FOR THIS VEHICLE, w/NEW COMPRESSOR, OE-SPECIFIED O-RINGS AND OIL INCLUDED

Relay

Before looking at replacing the compressor I would check the simple stuff first. The Mag Clutch relay is where I would look first. I had to replace mine. Does the A/C light flash on the temp controls? Then I would check the fuse as well.

To see if it's the relay, pop the box under the hood and locate another relay that is the same color for fog lights or something like that and swap them. If the A/C works then you know it's the relay.
