Anyone running 255/75r17 KM3s? Ghetto Spare ideas?

Narrowing in on 255/75r17 c rate KM3s to mount on TRD pro rims. Anyone have experience with the KM3s in this size?

One issue I am grappling with is what to do about the spare. I want a fullsize spare and I think I can fit the 32" tire in the stock location on my v6, but I am not thrilled about putting a new TRD rim down there with an expensive tire on it. Especially since I probably would not put it into rotation.

Would I encounter negative issues mounting a used KM2 in the same size as a spare? These can be found for a fraction of the price of a new KM3.

Anyone familiar with the downsides of running a different offset rim as a spare? I would rather not beat up a new TRD rim by mounting it under the truck.

I'm curious about this as well. I've wondered If I got new wheels with a different offset (same tire size) if that would be safe enough to get home or of the trail. Not sure how safe it is, or if it would cause potential damage to the differential or other steering components. Especially for a V8 with full time 4wd. Hopefully someone has some insight. It would be nice to have 5 matching wheels and tires but it's much more expensive!

255/75R17 fits fine in the spare location on he V6. I don't think you should have any issues running a KM2 in the same size. However, that size, with stock offset, will rub in the front, so you will have to put it in the back. Should be fine there, offset does not affect rotation speed.

I have five matching 255/75-17 Duratracs on FN FxPro wheels (TRD knockoffs); the spare fits just fine under my V8 with the larger hitch.

The other option, if you can afford it, is to do a 5 tire rotation. The rim in the spare location is facing with the outside up, so it will get beaten up much less than the rims on the truck. If you drag on something it will go on the tire not the rim. Only thing, it might get a bit dirty. With the 5 tire rotation you use all of the tires evenly and extend the life of all tires, so in the long run the cost per mile is the same. Just something to consider, that's what I opted for.

I'm running 275/70/17 BFG AT's with a 255/75/17 Duratrac spare in the stock location. I have V8 4x4. Roughly the same diameter, so I think it should be okay if I had to use it for a few miles to limp to shop.

Nice -- good to hear. How have you liked the 275/70/17 size? That was the other size I was looking at but worried it wouldn't fit as well.

The 275/70's are nice, its a good size for me because I wasn't looking to add a lot of lift. That being said, I really liked the 255/75/17's as well. I had Duratracs in that size for 60k miles. Can't go wrong either way IMO.

Also, my spare is on a different rim with different offset. I dont think that matters at all for a spare - only thing that matters is diameter.

255/80s or GTFO. If you’re worried about your spare getting stolen(?), put a cable and lock on it. If you’re worried about it getting beat up you are driving the wrong vehicle and need to get over it. Seriously.

I have a 33 inch tire in my stock spare location on a 3rd gen 4runner. It’s aired down like all the way but that’s what a compressor is for. If you mount it with the outer part of the rim facing up in the spare holder I wouldn’t be worried at all about scratches. And even if you didn’t the rubber would hit in the majority of cases.

That is interesting -- I would love to run the 285/70r17 C load K02, but I didn't think I could get it to fit in the spare location, even aired down. I am running onboard air, so keeping it aired down would be OK if I could get it to fit.

Anyone able to confirm one way or another whether that fit is possible?
