Rear bilstein 5100 install issues

Working on installing these in the rear but the top stud is too short. I just managed to get one nut threaded, but the other side is so short that the top of the stud doesn't clear the washer even with the shock fully compressed. Anyone else have this issue? I'm about ready to bring it in and just get a different brand shock.

So you jacked up the axle and it's still too short? I had no issues once I jacked up thr axle. Are you running big lift springs?

Yes, to the above and if you have the correct P/N for your application then it doesn't matter who's shock you use they should all be same.

Maybe I did get the wrong number, its the only thing I can think of. I had checked it before but mistakes can happen I guess.

Edit

Double checked bilstein website for part # and they match the ones I got off amazon. I had to temporarily reuse an old bushing just to get the car driveable.

I was unable to use the "new" rubber grommets that go on top of the shock, along with the new washer. I ended up having to use the original grommet and the new washer, which worked fine. I would have loved to put some new rubber in there, but it just was too thick and didn't work. I don't notice any issues with it.

I had to use needle nose Vise Grips to clamp the rubber bushings enough to start the threads on my 5160s. I got enough compression to get a few threads started.

Did you remove a tacked on washer from the underside of the shock mount?

Apparently one washer came off along with the shock (driver's side) which is why I was able to get that one started. I noticed one on the pax side but didn't think anything of it. How essential is that washer?

Yesterday, I had the same problem with there not being enough thread on the shock bolts showing to install my 5100 rear shocks and Toytec 2” lift springs. I even jacked up the axle (one side at a time), but the lower bushings didn’t compress enough to get the bolts to stick out.

Thanks to this forum, I knew to look for the washers stuck to the bottoms of the top shock mounts. Earlier today, I was able to pry the washers off and get the nuts onto both rear shocks. Years ago, I installed stock length 4600 rear shocks, and I don’t remember having any trouble installing them.

This is at least the third or fourth time I have found answers to my questions on this forum.

Thank you to everyone here who is more than happy to share their experiences/give free advice! Whenever I can, I do the same.
