Intermittent loss of power- No codes?

It is an 04 Limited with the 4.7 if it matters.

2 weeks ago I was driving at highway speeds and I thought it was really down on power, got home fine.

Drove it on short hops around town with no issues until today.

I pulled my approximately 2500 pound boat to the launch. Pulled fine for about 8 miles then a significant loss of power. Could barely go 20 mph.

Pulled over and let it sit for 15 minutes. Back to normal, I was 1 mile from the ramp so of course I went fishing.

I don't think its the transmission. RPMs never spiked like if the tranny was slipping.

No codes according to my BT obd2 and Torque app.

It has 155,000 miles on it, catalytic converter clogged?

I seriously doubt it's a clogged cat. Clogged cats don't act up now and run fine later. I'm wondering if maybe it could be the electronic throttle. When/if it does it again I'd have someone watch under the hood and see if the throttle moves like it should when you work the throttle. Of course there are a lot of other things it could be. Good luck and let us know what you find.

Thanks, I did see a few of those threads but missed others. I have done research and cats came up often. Unfortunately a lot of times the OP never reports back to confirm that X, Y or Z fixed the problem.

I am pretty sure the issue is solved.

Using Torque Pro I found that I was getting a pending fault code. P2714 but that it would dissapear when the truck restarted and never throw a CEL or become a full fledged code.

Turns out the ATF was a hair over 2 quarts low. The P2714 had to do with pressure.

ATF level is correct now and haven't had an issue. This includes pulling my boat on a hot day.

Probably going to have the local transmission shop change the filter and do a complete flush.

Good to hear....BUT I would forget about having them change out the "filter", there is no filter, there is however a metal "screen", everyone who pulled the pan to change the filter found that screen not clogged whatsoever so no need to change it, also with the V6 it pretty easy to pull the transmission pan and put it back on, but with the V8 the exhaust has to be taken apart to get the transmission pan off causing the labor to be much more and you will risk having an exhaust leak if not put back together correctly which will throw another code!!

Just do a complete fluid "exchange", Do Not do a complete "flush" which is done using pressure which could cause any possible deposits to dislodge and clog any number of the very small passageways in the transmission and or valve body, new fluid will not dislodge any of these possible deposits but instead will dissolve them and not cause any issues.

Just to add to what you said: I would also ask the transmission shop to find out where the fluid went. Transmission fluid, unlike engine oil is not usually consumed. For it to be 2 quarts low there almost has to be a leak unless someone serviced it and didn't fill it all the way. Disclaimer: on older vehicles with a modulator valve on the transmission the fluid could be sucked through a vacuum hose and burned by the engine if the diaphragm failed. Luckily, our runners do not have those.
