Off Road Bumper??

Hi all!
I am thinking about getting an Off-Road front bumper (eBay) for my 4th gen 4Runner. I live in Michigan and was wondering if the front end components will be more exposed to the salt and road grime that is here in the winter? Therefor getting everything all F'ed up from salt and such. It seems that most front bumpers look like they expose a lot of the front end components. Any thoughts? Does anyone live in a snow belt with off-road front bumpers that can comment?

Thanks

I can tell you it will open up the 4Runner to the elements. You can put skid plates on to help protect certain areas, but the front suspension will be more exposed. I have no experience in the rust belt being a wimpy Floridian lol.
I know your not the first one to attempt this, so I'm sure there are preventative and regular maintenance measures that can be taken, to help with the problems. There are treatments such as Fluid Film that people put on their frames, so I think it can be done. Hopefully someone will chime in with more experience.

We are also in Michigan! You can always go with something like our Blitz Bumper that only replaces the center section to give you recovery points and a winch but leaves the outer portions of your factory bumper. I have a full Strike bumper on my 4Runner and haven't had any issues in the winter but I would definitely recommend fluid film either way. It's a good idea to clean the frame/suspension/skids every year before winter, paint if needed and then coat with fluid film.

I just watched a couple of videos on Fluid Film. Seems that stuff works!! Going to do that regardless of what bumper I get!! Thanks for the suggestion Victory!!

Also just wash the undercarriage after every snow. Just getting the salt off when it's fresh helps tons from what I've heard.

Fluid film does wonders for rust prevention especially on suspension components. Using a quality primer under the top coat for your armored bumper will go long ways towards keeping the bumper rust free.

I live in Michigan too. Gotta do the fluid film every fall in pretty thick coats but it will keep everything serviceable underneath.
