JBL Synthesis complete replacement including wiring questions.

2007 Sport with JBL system. I replaced the head unit with a Pioneer avh 4100nex. It has been working great for the last 2 years but it started intermittently cutting out sound to the entire 4Runner for a couple of seconds and then it would come back (OEM stereo would do it also). Now, all the sound is gone for the last 2-3 weeks.

I have connected a speaker straight to the stereo and there is sound so I have ruled out the stereo as the problem. So instead of tracing down a wire that might be crimped, I have decided to just replace all the wiring along with a new amp and all new speakers.

I would like to keep everything in the stock locations including the amp so I am looking at 5 channel amps. Is it possible to run a power cable underneath the vehicle all the way to trunk area? Has anyone heard a this problem before or have an idea of what it might be that doesn't have me metering every wire connected to the stereo?

Thank you.

I haven’t heard of your problem, but I have 12v power running from my battery all the way back to 2 aftermarket amps in my cargo area. You can search on google to figure out what gauge power wire you will need based on the power of the amps and the distance from the battery to the amps.

I would like to not run a power cable along side stereo or antenna cables for the fear of electrical interference, which is why I was asking about the possibility of running the 0-4 gauge power cable through the outside of the vehicle.

Sorry, when you wrote “underneath” I didn’t realize you meant outside the vehicle. That should work. I don’t know why it wouldn’t.

My power wire (4 gauge?) runs inside my 4Runner, down the left side under the door trim and pillars, and I don’t get any electrical interference. The wire isn’t very close to any speaker wires or antennas, or my head unit. My 2 amps are grounded to the rear seat (second row) seat belt mounting bolts by the floor (L and R).

Sorry should have been more clear. I am not against running it inside, I have just read in a few places that it might have a negative effect. I also have a CB radio antenna cable running through the side.
