LED load resistors for DRL’s crazy hot

Just put in one LED for the front DRL/Turn signal bulb on passenger side of my 08 SR5 with DRL’s, got a pair for both sides. It is a single action LED (single filiment bulb) which also is the turn signal. This thing is crazy hot, got over 370* in less than 10 minutes. After about 20 minutes we’re over 400*.





Is this normal? Is this ok to use for a DRL to where it’s always on? Or are they only to be used on flashers to where the lights are intermittent?

I don’t want to start a fire or anything. I can’t imagine how hot it’s going to get after being on for a couple hours in the AZ heat. I didn’t see much at all about the heat for these things. Is this kind of heat normal? Are people just mourning them to the metal somewhere and not worrying about it? The wires for the bulbs and the resistor were only like 78* which was the same as everything else, just the resistor was crazy hot. Never heard that part about it researching previously.

i would take it out, swap with led flasher relay, and get the 8 pin to 12 pin harness to use with the led flasher relay, i only saw one person did the harness and relay change, another way is to take apart the flasher relay and grind out the load resistor bar.

That’s initially what I was wanting to do when I was researching solutions to hyper flash. Most information I had read about people’s experience was the problems they had with the flasher replacement and most recommended the resistors instead I’d thought. They said if the blinkers worked the hazards had issues, sometimes them not turning off completely and staying on afterwards. Something like the lights may stay on too or not have the auto function work or turn off after a few minutes. They talked about weird other problems as well, especially with the DRL’s. I was thinking the relay swaps were for NON-DTRL’s, at least what I saw. Other things I read initially too that I’m not recalling right now.

I’ll have to look back in to it again. I’ll check out the grind down portion again as well. I recall seeing that option too initially a couple months ago.
