3rd Gen’r May Have Found a 4th. What’s a Fair Price?

Hypothetically speaking: These V8’s are getting harder to find so what if you have an out of state, friend of a friend who’s thinking of selling his 1 owner 04 SR5 4x4 with 160k? Blue Book says about $5400-7700 but he knows the rarity of what he has and is saying closer to $9,000. He loves in a western state and there’s no rust at all. Rig is bone stock and I have no idea about repairs or recalls. Fair price to offer without any insulting him?

I’d get more info about maintenance done and try and see if I could have someone trusted closer to take a look and maybe either do a pre-purchase inspection or take it to one.

If everything is top-top then I’d probably offer $8k.

Also the region is important. West coast hold their value more than northeast for example.

I live in az and paid 7200 for my truck that had ~150k on it about 4 months ago. 2006 v8 4x4. I got a good deal, that truck normally goes for around what he's asking i'd guess.

Yea make sure the timing belt has been replaced / water pump usually goes with that

You can go to cargurus and value or sell your vehicle and get an idea of the market value of vehicles in different areas. If he’s gonna mark it up for rarity or sentimental value then you’ll have to decide if that difference is worth it for you.

Depends on where it is. In Seattle area, I would say that is likely worth $10K with decent service records.

Timing belt, secondary air injection pump issues, exhaust manifold cracks, rodent damage and always check the frame for rust. Truck could have spent a winter up north or something out of the ordinary and the frame was never protected or cleaned up after. You should always put a code reader on it, to see if anything is pending or stored. Price is market dependent, and how long it sits before an offer comes along. Owner might be desperate as well.
