Turning brake drums

Another pile.
During the time the truck sat during engine rebuild the Left rear wheel cylinder dumped all system brake fluid on the garage floor. So before a test run I needed to go thru the rear brakes and replace the rear axle bearings and seals.
At one point someone dropped this thing on the backing plate and jacked up the 2 studs holding the shoe stops and bending the shoes.
I took the drum to get turned, measured it and there was still plenty of material to work with but when I got it back they said it was chattering and they couldn't hold the same diameter for the entire width of the drum. The most inside diameter for about 3/4" was one diameter and the remaining surface was slightly larger. So there was a clear step in the brake pad surface. I had several discussions with the shop with them first saying it would be ok. Then agreeing to give me my money back and saying the drum couldn't be turned correctly. They said it was a bi- cast drum. Never heard of it and never had an issue not being able to get a drum turned. I cant find any cracks.
Has anyone heard of a bi-cast drum or had issues turning the 08 drums?
