UCA Installation Question

I've never worked on UCAs but need to upgrade my front springs.

My question is are massive efficiencies to be gained by replacing the UCAs while the shocks/springs are removed? Only asking to decide whether it's worth replacing it all at once or upgrading my springs and making the call on UCAs based on alignment/driveability.

I think I know the answer here but want to hear from those that have actually done UCAs.

Thanks in advance

If you use front lift struts (springs and coils) that are over 2" then you may not be able to get the front aligned. Some trucks can others can't, it really depends on the geometry.

So some people install aftermarket UCAs that move the upper ball joint position to adjust for a lifted suspension. So depending on what you are installing it may be worth upgrading.

I think the question was more along the lines of, should I do it while I have it apart?

It's not a terrible job, really only the long through bolt and the spindle castle nut to get them off. Well other than having to remove the battery on the driver side. No real advantage to doing them at the same time as lift other than the alignment perspective.

BTW, I have an '03 V8, installed SPC's a few weeks back and did not have to remove, or even loosen battery, the bolt head slipped by with minimal contact with battery, so check it out first.

This is on a Tacoma but it's a very similar operation with the 03' to 20' 4Runner.

UCA's would be a good idea if:
- you are lifting the truck close to 3" in the front. UCA's will be key for proper re-alignment.
- you plan on going up to 33" tires. the additional degrees of caster will make these easier to fit/align.
