Thanks for grabbing pics and info for the brake booster/accumulator replacement, thats awesome! I've been slowly adding threads here as I find them, and I stumbled across your awesome pics and documentation. +1 for using imgur. I've learned all I know about 4runners and auto maintenance from this forum and youtube, so this is a way I can try and give back.

Thread updates
Its been a while since I made a post in this thread, but I've been updating the main posts slowly as I come across good threads. The most recent additions have been:
  • Brake Booster/Accumulator
  • Doug Thorley Headers
  • New Camping/Overlanding Section for some outdoor accessibility type modifications
  • Rear Window Up Mod
  • Seat Bottom Foam Replacement
  • Auto Dimming Mirror
  • Scion Head Unit
  • V6 Alternator Replacement
  • A few more I'm probably forgetting.

I'm glad they help! I sometimes feel like I'm wasting time when I stop to grab pics or write everything out, so it's nice to hear it's worth and it and at least helped somebody. Yeah, Imgur seems to be the best for hosting pics online for this

I get that, it's always good to try and give back - and I think this thread was a great way!

This is a seriously awesome thread! Thanks for putting it together. Saves a lot of searching around for half remembered threads.

Can you please take down or edit the post where you incorrectly remove the CV axle with a home-depot woodworking prybar and a hammer and damage the differential housing and seals?

This is the tool that should be used every time:

Amazon.com: OEM TOOLS 27305 Axle Popper Kit, Fork & Shim Tool, Remove Most Vehicles’ Half-Shaft Drive Axles, Fix Damaged CV Joints: Automotive

Sure, I will update it with the CV forks and try to find some applicable pics of them in action. I agree that I didn't use the most optimized tools for the job, and I now know there are better ways to do things, but its certainly not worth throwing the whole thing out over.

I'll keep the part about the seal damage, and I didn't see any damage to the differential housing after you commented on the original post. Making a mistake is an important part of learning for me, and thats why I specifically made a section on the mistakes I made. Others can see how I messed up and learn from me. If it took 2 $15 seals for me to grow as a home mechanic, then I'm not going to loose sleep over that. Its been about 3000 miles since I did that repair, and there are no leaks.

@y=mx+b you’re an asset to this forum!

@mods, can we sticky this thread? I’ve gone back to it at least a hundred times in the last month 😅

Thanks dude, I really appreciate that! There are a lot of good writeups out there, so I wanted to consolidate them into one place they could all be found. I'm glad it is helpful to you!

A sticky would be cool and may help people find the into they need quicker!

Thank YOU for the UCA install writeup and the slash shield PDFs, those are great and all the pics are super helpful. Hoping to upgrade my suspension, UCAs, etc soonish so I'll definetly be referencing back to your pics and might whip up some splash guards too as I'm missing a few.

Thumbs up

As a newbie here, this ease of accessing well-organized information is going to make my life a helluva lot easier in the immediate future and in years to come with both upgrades and repairs. Thanks Y!

Please sticky this thread to keep it up top for quicker reference!

Thanks dude! Glad it could be helpful. I still am a bit of a newb myself and had a bunch of these saved in my bookmarks, so having it public is a great way to share some of the older threads I dug up haha.

I agree a sticky would be helpful for people to find this info! I tagged Momo on the first page, but didn't hear anything and didn't want to be too pesky asking a bunch haha. I've added a bunch more threads since then, so maybe its worthy now lol

The forum won't allow me to create my own topic, so I created my HOWTO in PDF format and made it available here:
HOWTO: Add Rear Window and Tailgate Controls to Cargo Area.
Please add it to your list if you think it'll help others. Cheers!

Dude this is awesome work! Thanks for making this and sharing! The text over the image is a great detail and very organized! The PDF is a great way to share and I added it in both the Interior and the Camping sections, as it ties into both

I believe you need 10 posts in order to start a thread, so pitching in with some awesome info like this is a great way to build up some post history! As an aside too, the forum is a tad weird at picture uploading if you ever make a pic heavy thread. I use Imgur to embed images in the post. I think it helps to keep it organized and to select appropriate large or small images depending on the occasion. A bit of an explanation here: https://www.toyota-4runner.org/3587207-post17.html. You don't have to use this method, just the way I found useful for me.
