$45K for a vehicle. Wow. I get that it’s the market today but I ‘ll keep my 4th Gen.

Moving up to 2020. Pro's and con's?

If paying cash, then that doesn’t matter, but most people aren’t positioned to do that with a $45k vehicle. Best value is probably one that’s a year or two old with 10-12k miles on it if you can pay cash, or get a good finance rate.

Have you looked at used Toyotas with 4x4? (In California) they hold their value incredibly well. As you mentioned, many people are not paying cash for these things. Most banks/credit unions offer a much better interest rate on the new vehicle making the few thousand dollars in saving for a used one irrelevant.

My local dealer has a 2020 TRD-Off Road premium for $45.5k.

The cheapest TRD-ORP within 100 miles is currently a 2019 with 12k miles asking $43.2k

Let's assume you negotiate a discount of $1.5k off of both vehicles. Below are the estimated monthly payments based on the interest rates available from my local credit union.

Used: $41.7k | $10k down | 3.89% for 60 months | $582 / month

New: $44k | $10k down | 2.19% for 60 months | $599 / month

For an extra $17 / month give me the brand new 2020 with TSS, a better radio, a warranty, etc... Now, alls left is to wonder what deal the OP got on the SR5 premium

Both are wrong I financed my new 4 runner at 0% for 36 months where as a used one was only a few thousand dollars cheaper and financing was much higher. Plus the dealer threw in extended warranty and some other goodies. Shop smart and because it is your money look around for the best deal for your situation not someone's opinion on this forum.

A solid, rust-free 4th Gen 4WD with reasonable mileage, well cared for w/ maintenance records at ~$15K (or less) for the win. Plus you could equip it to handle any trail you want to run using half of what you saved.

But I get it b/c there was a time I had to have the shiny new thing too. Thankfully that time (and those expensive lessons) are long gone.

I’m with you on that and that’s exactly why I bought a used 4th gen earlier this year. The OP asked about upgrading to a 2020 and my stance is 1) wait for 6th gen 2) if you must do it now buy new and take advantage of better interest rate on the loan versus a lightly used one
