Does this "count" as my 100k engine coolant service?

Around a year ago I purchased a 2008 V8 4Runner Sport with about 103,000 miles as our 3rd vehicle / snow storm vehicle. The official service records were pretty MIA and I could tell the previous owner did some things himself. Not sure what was done, I immediately changed the front diff, rear diff, transfer case, and ATF fluids myself last summer.

I saved up for a year (105k miles now) and had a local independent shop that I trust do the timing belt service using all OEM Parts including idler pulleys, tensioner, water pump, drive belt, and thermostat. While they were in there they noticed coolant slowly leaking from a housing assembly (sorry I don't recall the specifics) called me about it, and I said replace it. I noticed on the bill two jugs of coolant as well and asked the service writer if this work would meet the Toyota 100k Engine Coolant service as well? He looked at me a bit dumbfounded for a second, I repeated, and he said yes, it's an essence an engine coolant drain and fill while they did the large job. His lack of confidence in this answer and this job being beyond my mechanical knowledge is leading me back to all of you!

Does the timing belt service + extras that I paid for cover my 100k engine coolant service? Or should I plan for that in the upcoming months?

Thank you!

If they did the water pump, it should be close enough. When you change the water pump, that changes about half the coolant out. Technically, to fully drain the engine block you need to use the drain cocks near the back of the engine. However, I would say if they just replaced the water pump you are probably ok.

If you really want a full coolant exchange, go to Walmart, get 4 jugs of Valvoline Red, and do it your self. It is not hard at all. The key though is to drain it from the back of the engine. Just be aware if you do it your throwing away at least have a system of perfectly good coolant.

I would say you're good to go, if they did indeed replace 8 quarts of the coolant and used the correct Asian pink formula coolant, the V8 takes 13 quarts of coolant, so they replace approximately 2/3rds of the coolant, I would feel good with that on my V8 since these Toyota engine coolant systems run pretty clean as long as you use the correct coolant.

Thank you guys. That's good enough for me, for now, given our very infrequent use of the vehicle. I'll do a more thorough drain in a couple years.
