Rear Hatch Issue

I replaced the melted rear hatch switch on my 2007 4Runner. Now the hatch works intermittently. For a while there it would only open on the third attempt. In the past couple of days its now completely random. Sometime it opens on the first attempt, sometimes never and I have to roll down the window, and sometimes up to 5 attempts.

I can't figure it out. I try locking and unlocking the car and nothing works.

Prior to replacing the switch, it worked great but just left a bunch of soft rubber on your fingers.

Any ideas on what to do?

Thanks

Check the connection, if it not firmly connected, that could be the issue.

Did you replace the actual switch or just the rubber piece?

If you replaced the actual switch did you buy an OEM switch or after market brand?

If not an OEM switch then it could be the aftermarket switch, if you still have the old one clean it up and install it

I should add...anytime I hit the switch, it does some kind of cycle. It pauses for a few seconds, then there is another motor cycle of some sort. Like maybe it’s going through the locking cycle?

The unlock cycle is very distinct and is quick in nature. Hatch pops right open.

So the connection is good and sends a signal every time the latch switch is hit
