Replacing nav system while keeping aux, steering wheel controls

I have to replace the factory JBL/premium navigation/radio headunit in my 2008 Ltd.

I assume I can swap it with any double-din unit that I buy aftermarket or rip out of a car in the junk yard.

I’m inclined to not replace it with one from the same model year/4th gen as I want bluetooth for my phone/audio, not just for phone calls. But any newer system with that feature should be fine as long as it fits, right? Standard connectors in the back?

If so, I know I may lose the backup camera, steering wheel controls, and the aux port inside the center console. Is there any way to keep these three functional? I’ve just listed them in priority order if I have to pick and choose what to keep.

Check crutchfield, I just installed a Sony XAV-AX5500 and I kept my steering wheel controls with a Crux module.

I second spending some time on Crutchfield and speaking with them. I also just upgraded to the Sony AX5500 and I’m very pleased. I kept the steering wheel controls, but had to install a new backup camera. My truck didn’t have factory AUX, but I would guess you will lose that too. That shouldn’t be a big deal though since most headunits have AUX/Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.

I did the same. You can get a backup camera cheap and it's fairly easy to install. Use your phone with Waze or Google Maps for GPS, get the Crux kit for the steering wheel controls. If you get a head unit with Android or Apple Carplay you can install USB jack(s) in one of the blind plugs on the console or dash. I did all of that and couldn't be more pleased.

Just to annoy you, use crutchfield. Amazing customer service. I installed a head unit earlier this year and it couldn't have been easier.

Crutchfield for sure, but you are going to have to purchase some adaptor to whatever headunit you purchase.

You can get an Android stereo head unit and forego that. They are cheap (less than $500) and you basically get a copy of your smartphone on your dashboard.

I'm in the same boat, I love my factory NAV, but it is completely worthless in 2020. I'm eyeing this one:

6.2 inch Android 10.0 GPS Navigation Radio for 1996-2018 Toyota Corolla Auris Fortuner Estima Innova with HD Touchscreen Carplay Bluetooth WIFI support OBD2 1080P

Good luck

I Bought this from crutchfield, Pioneer DMH-2660NEX Digital multimedia receiver (does not play CDs) at Crutchfield and used their toyota harness. I retained my steering wheel controls AND aux. Worth every penny

I plan on installing the Pioneer 4500, which is wireless for carplay and android auto. I spoke with a shop in Walnut Creek and they will do the install for me. They will ad backup camera and steering wheel controls adapter. If you could do this on your own, it might be cheaper and a good idea to talk to the Crutchfield people, otherwise shop around before settling. I was told JBLs will cost more to fit aftermarket products in.
