Replacing Alternator now...cannot get the idler pulley bolt to budge... advice?

Title says it all, I'm sitting out in the mist and dark trying to replace alternator on my 2006 V6 4Runner and have removed battery and can not get the idler pulley bolt to budge so I can get tension off of the belt and of course remove the idler pulley also. If I recall the idler pulley bolt has loktite on it? Yes/No?

Any advice on turning the idler pulley bolt without rounding it off or damaging something? FYI I am not a very good mechanic, but I try... Thanks!

God Bless

You don’t need to remove any idler pulleys. Just loosen the tensioner to put some slack on the belt. You should be able to get all the bolts out just fine.

Just replaced my alternator about a month ago.

Also if I recall that bolt is reverse threaded, so you're likely tightening it.

You do not need to remove the tension pulley wheel, just apply pressure like you are going to remove it, but when you do that, it will push the pulley wheel in against it's spring, which will release tension on the pulley, and allow you to remove the serpentine belt.

Have you checked the charge on your battery? Might be bad at this point
