Urgent: help with tires and trd pro rims !

I'm new to learning about the tires and wheels friends, but I knew I wanted the TRD Pro wheels (17x7) PTR20-35110-GR.

Friend recommended 255/75/r17 wheels so got myself the Firestone destination AT2 tires and dropped all off at the shop first thing the mechanic says is these rims look small for those wheels??

Please tell me it's fine! Or do I need to get a skinnier wheel? Thanks! Urgent: help with tires and trd pro rims !

Absolutely fine. TRD Pros come factory with 265s, 10mm is nothing.

Yeah, they should be fine. Is the mechanic going to mount them? Why is it urgent?

those wheels are def not too small for that tire size. i have those wheels and i'm running (as well as many others on this forum) 285/70r17, no issues at all.

255/75 are ideally run on 7-8.5" wheels. Should be a perfect fit.

They're the same as OEM. I could see if you were trying to mount some 37s maybe, but especially with the skinnies no issue whatsoever.

You can run into the reverse issues with skinnies, wheels are too wide, like trying to mount skinnies on a 9" wide wheel.

4th gen 4runners came stock with 265/65/17 tires that are 30.6" tall. a common step up in size is the 265/70 that is 31.6" tall, 1" taller than stock. 5th gens use the 265/70. the 255/75 is 32.1" tall, 1.5" taller than stock 4th gen. the 255/75 is not an oem size for 4th or 5th gen 4runners but is close. however, if you have stock suspension & it is sagging at all, those 255/75 tires "might" rub in some situations unless you have a small lift.

& just an FYI on terms, tires are not called rims or wheels, they are called tires. the wheel or rim is what the tire installs on. heres a helpful link to compare tire sizes...

Im running 255/75/17 tires on TRD Pro wheel and think they're a perfect fit! Never had any issues or second thoughts.

You shouldn't have any issue with that wheel and tire combo. I know plenty of people that run that combination and have zero issues. It sounds like to me you need to find a new mechanic.

Thanks so much guys, tires fit great on those rims. I'm running a stock suspension and having an issue with rub in a strong left or strong right like when backing into a spot..

I’m slightly higher than stock and had the exact same issue. In my case it was only rubbing on the front of the fender liner; a little trimming and a zip tie or two took care of the problem!
