I switched back to conventional (Napa 10W 40) and the drips slowed down but didn’t stop entirely. Now after a second oil change and 10 months later ALL the drips have stopped. I’ll stick with just conventional and change the oil every 5000 miles.

NOTE: I used a piece of cardboard on the garage floor to keep track of the drips.

MONTHS LATER: Now, after replacing the cardboard in my 2 car garage with a new piece 5 days ago I noticed there has not been even one drop SEEN in 5 days.

I have never added any additives or a stop leak to this Toyota engine. I do my own oil changes.

Synthetic Vrs. Conventional in older 4runner

A troll is a person who starts flame wars or intentionally upsets people on the Internet by posting inflammatory and digressive,[1] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the intent of provoking readers into displaying emotional responses[2] and normalizing tangential discussion,[3] either for the troll's amusement, or to achieve a specific result such as disrupting a rival's online activities or manipulating a political process.

Enough said?

Why are you guys even bothering? So much easier just to ignore, then he will move along.
I also typed something out to reply to him, but then decided he wasn’t worth my time.

you still avoid the FACT that semi synthetic oil is barely 15-20% synthetic, its a marketing gimmick to charge more for oil because some people think its like half & half.

& now of all things, you think or imply that synthetic oil will cause a head gasket issue??? LMAO!!! please explain how that is even remotely possible??? or did you hear that from scotty kilmer??? you really need to step away from from the keyboard & stop spewing nonsense like this...
Iowa? Where is that?

Like I said before. Just get lost!

Surf the net. Lots of owners got oil leaks from using synthetic. Surf along!

nobody, not one single person on here cares about your alleged assets... you really need to stop with that crap, you are a joke no matter what you own. just a fool & his money...

get a job? you have no clue (as usual) about his employment. & the thread is NOT about conventional being superior to synthetic, its about you having leaks with both types of oil & not capable of finding or fixing your leak! do some research into synthetic einstein, it is superior in every single category. show us proof of where you come up with that crap? but we all know you cant & wont just like everything else you post on here, pure utter nonsense!

so im a jerk because i call out your BS & you cant back up anything you say with some facts or proof? yeah ok skippy! & now you are using "DB" that i called you in reply to your AH... real original there capt.

YOU are the only one freaking out here, every member replying to you has tried to help & been polite & mature at first & all you can do is post childish insults & name calling & keep repeating the same ridiculous things. apparently you arent capable of learning from your mistakes or others with much more experience & knowledge than you will ever have.. if anything, the mods here need to BAN you for your immature attitude & countless insults to other members on this forum! keep it up tough guy, we are all laughing at you & your delusional idiotic comments!

oh & by the way, its hilarious how you call us all "cheap" & brag about your ASSets, yet you drive a 16+ year old 4runner thats probably as basic & lame as they come!!! IF you had a fraction of what you claim, youd have a maxed out 4th gen with the best of the best mods or a brand new 5th or 6th gen TRD PRO 4runner or a lexus.... but no, the millionaire expert mechanic has a 16 year old lemon of a 4runner that has oil leaks & goes through 4 starters in 150k miles!!! go get em big spender!! LOL!
Wow! A lot to say by a real "jerk".

Well, no I'm not stupid.

But you DID post pictures of a commercial fishing boat you inferred was yours, along with two dudes on a dock, and another one of a guy holding a fish, any of which could have been you.

So pardon me if I ASSumed you posted a picture of yourself, rather than a picture of some random people which had no bearing on any of the discussions.

Why so contentious?

I tried synthetic blend and got some minor pan leaks, so went back to conventional. Tried full synthetic too.
Synthetic is overrated IMO. Good for new cars, but older car over 10 years old do just as well on conventional.

We've had three brand new cars in the last 15 years. Two Toyotas and one GMC Jimmy. We had a two year old Cadillac with the so called great "split block"! It leaked a little oil too.

Our 2005 4runner would leak on synthetic oil.
Hardly any (no leaks) with conventional, so I run conventional.
you should change the oil either way every 5000 miles IMO.
Oil gets dirty and properties deteriorate.

Scotty Kilmer says the same thing about synthetic in older cars. Watch out for the leaks!
