4th Gen Interior Makover
It seems like most of the threads out there for interior upgrades, like replacing carpets, seats, etc for 4th gens are fairly old, and I haven't seen a thread devoted solely to all things interior, so I figured I'd start one.
I recently made some much needed interior (and smell) upgrades - ripped out the old nasty carpet, insulated the floorpan, put down new vinyl flooring and replaced the upholstery with Katzkins.
For the insulation, brand names like Dynamat were way too expensive for my tastes, so I used Peel & Seal from Lowe's for a fraction of the cost. I applied one layer to the entire floorpan, which took about 2.5 rolls ($15 per roll). I had been reading about Peel & Seal in different forums, so I felt pretty confident in using it as an alternative to other big name brands of sound dampening/insulation material. However, because this is an asphalt-based product, I only used it on the floorpan and not the doors for fear of it running in the heat of the summer (I used self-adhesive HVAC insulation on the doors, but I didn't take any pictures).
For the vinyl floor liner, I had not found any posts on here where this had been done and couldn't find anywhere online that offered a vinyl carpet replacement for 4th gens......at first glance. I called Auto Custom Carpets (accmats.com) to see if they could be made as a special order since they were not offered in the product list for the vehicle. The lady I spoke to advised they were listed under "other" products, since the vehicle is an SUV and the material only covered the passenger area (not the cargo area). They have since updated their website to include vinyl as an option.
I have to say I was happy to find a manufactured alternative to carpet and this is some really thick and durable stuff, but I was a little disappointed in the level of contour stamped into the liner. The location of the impressions in the vinyl matched the floorpan well, but the depth was just not there. Nonetheless, it does its job and I'm happy with it overall.
For the leather, the closest Katzkin dealer was Automotion in Warner Robins, Ga. I had them order the Katzkin kit in black with Stone contrast stitching. They gave me a great price for the kit and installation, so I just let them do the install as well. They were great to deal with and did an excellent job. So far I'm extremely happy with it.
I'm sure I'll find more things to improve in the near future, but until then I would love to see what others here have done.

Thanks! Btw....Katzkin kits are complete leather replacement, not just seat covers. They're backed with sew foam...plus, the installer used steam to "fluff" the OEM cushions back to normal...so the seats feel nice and firm.

Already did the doors, but used self-stick air duct insulation, not Peel & Seal. Applies the same, but I didn't want to run the risk of asphalt running down and out of the doors. I don't plan on doing the headliner anytime soon. On a scale of 1 - 10, I would say 5 I guess? There's nothing overly complicated about it, just time consuming. I took my time and did it all over the weekend, devoting one day to removing carpet, cleaning and insulating the floorpan....and one day for installing the vinyl.

The leather kit and installation was right at $1k. The contrast stitching was an extra $100.

Do you mind posting some more pics of the vinyl. I've been thinking about trying something like this.
