Accidental discovery: with the back (hatch) window partially down, tapping the up or down arrow moves it in small steps.

Apologies if this has been mentioned, didn't want to read 38 pages to see if I missed it the first time someone posted it.

Agreed, love stashing stuff in there.

Finally made it through all 38 pages of info. Knew most of it...but not all of it. Thank you to everyone who contributed.

Had a high opinion of these vehicles even before owning one. The three years I've had mine has done nothing but increase the appreciation I have for the engineering that went into them. I'd like to meet the original 4th Gen design team from Toyota and shake their hands, they hit a home run.

Found this by accident. You can keep the HVAC blower going without having the key in the ON position.
With blower already running and key in ON position , just turn the the key ever so slightly left towards the ACC. This will kill the dash lights and the HVAC will keep blowing.

Just ran through the entire thread (new 4runner owner here).

Most surprising thing I found was the sliding/adjustable sun visor

One of those things I saw but didn't see in the 7+ years I've owned my 4Runner. Toyota thoughtfully provided bulb specifications near the housings. This example covers the headlights:

And this is for the turn signals/DRL & parking lamps (top line is partially scraped, it says 1156NA):

I think the same info is present in the back as well but I didn't take pics.

Hello there, you’ll find the search bar on this forum to be your best friend when it comes to finding answers to your 4Runner questions. Try searching 4th gen door lock programming and you should find many results. The owners manual for your truck may also be helpful.

How to program the door lock is in the "Owner's Manual".

If you don't have the "Owner's Manual" that came with your T4R when it was new you can download it at "Toyota Owners" website.

You don't have to register or login, just enter your vehicle and look in the "Resources" tab

Welcome to Toyota Owners

Don't know if this has been said but when turning on you don't have to turn and hold the key

Found this in the FSM; posting for awareness since a search revealed only one reference in a 2009 thread. There are holes in the 4th Gen V6 serpentine belt tensioner that align when you rotate it to loosen tension on the belt. Put an allen wrench (6mm) or something similar in there and it will hold the tensioner in the rotated position while you replace the belt. Appears not to be the case on the V8 b/c the belt installation is such that it's not needed.

Edit: I just did my serpentine belt and pulleys, and I did not see a way to rotate the tensioner far enough to get the holes lined up. If you want to try, my suggestion would be to remove your front skid plate, get a long breaker bar on the tensioner, and try it that way.

Something I learned while shopping for a 4th Gen is that a “B” as the fourth character in the VIN means it’s a 4WD.
