Squealing sound every 30 seconds under steering wheel.

I have a 2004 4Runner. I wanted to see if anyone has had a similar sound coming from under the steering wheel, or what you think might be causing it.

When I first start the truck and let it idle, there is a squealing/pinching sound that comes from under the steering wheel. it only last for about 1 second then goes away and comes again about 30 seconds later. it almost sounds like a pump trying to compress and then stops. its kinda subtle and after the car warms up sometimes it will stop. the sound is hard to explain... Sorry!

it has been doing it for at least 2 years but lately its been doing to more and a bit louder. any ideas on what it could be? thanks for your help in advance!

Could be the brake booster pump. It's right on the other side of the firewall. Open the hood and see if you can hear it on that side.

The sound does seem to be coming from right there where the brake pump is. I actually have tried that a couple times but with sound of the motor right there i can't hear it. the motor running over powers the sound. ill do some research on that booster pump. I would prefer not to have brake issues, especially rolling down the highway!
