The blue you have on your 2005 is a totally different color blue than his blue on his 2014, different color and formulations of paint, it's apples to oranges, so your comment is not helping him.

The brand new 1996 GMC JIMMY I bought off a dealer's lot in Stuart Florida rusted away so bad I sold her for $800, to get it out of my sight.

Tell us what year Toyota when you post.

How does Toyota do it?
It's never been the same after I waxed it with synthetic wax. I went back to carnuba and now it looks great again. I am glad I switched back before the synthetic wax blew my head gasket. How is your Toyota original paint?-6520667938e12cf204b80c1e5f426d5b-jpg

Thumbs up Good to go!

The paint on this "new" '08 Driftwood Pearl is great! I removed the side and rear badges yesterday (12lb test Stren line, a hot wash rag, and a thumbnail). Was worried about fading and "shadows" behind the letters. Nada - zip - zilch! Even buffed out some o' the light scuffs with a Dobie dishwashing pad and warm spit. (Like duct tape and bailing wire, spit has unlimited uses for us more creative rednecks. )

In comparison, my 82 year-old dad's Chevy pick-up from the same year is a mess... The clearcoat (over, you guessed it, blue paint) is peeling off the roof, hood and bed edges. Looks like truck psoriasis. Sheesh... Should be on one of the endless pharmaceutical commercials on the boob tube.

In a word: garbage.

I have bashed so many rocks, trees, animals and dirt that I can barely tell that there at one time was nice shiny paint on the vehicle. Every panel that has not had an argument with a tree is totally sun faded from the 110 degree summers around here.

Also, I don't really care about paint so there is that.

‘06 metallic gray mica. Roof clear is super flaky, hood scoop & fender flares have faded over the years. Overall not too bad, especially since I never see the roof.

My '05 Dorado Gold is fading quite a bit on the roof and fender flares

other than a small half dime sized rust spot under my drivers side mirror and a finger nail spot on the drivers side passenger door she seems perfect.

I think the Tacomas are worse off, I see a ton of them with trashed paint.
Maybe because the 4runner is painted in Japan?
My 07 Silver is holding up besides the mirrors which I repainted. The hood is starting to look a little hazy but might be buildup from spray detail. The plastic piece on the tailgate needs a repaint.
Fingers crossed it holds up as it's my DD and I can't really drive a ghetto car to work.

My 2014 Nautical Blue has the clear on the roof flaking like crazy. Just started on the hood a few weeks ago. The horizontal portion of the doors by the windows is starting to flake too. Pretty disappointing for a 9 year old vehicle.

My 2003 dorado gold looks almost like new. I live in the tropics, plenty of sun.

2003 Galactic Grey. Mine looks pretty good. Couple of rust spots, some fading paint, and lots of sun damage.

We have three 4Runners. None has ever spent a night in a garage.

2003 V8: silver OE paint is quite tatty, especially on plastic parts -- borderline embarrassing

2009 V6: silver OE paint is mint

2017: grey OE paint is mint
